I-Beam, San Francisco, CA February 12, 1989 CHRIS CORNELL R.I.P. 1964 - 2017 Chris Cornell, lead singer of American hard rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, has died on May 17, 2017 aged 52 in a possible suicide. In a statement to the Associated Press, his representative, Brian Bumbery, said Cornell died on Wednesday night in Detroit. Bumbery called the death “sudden and unexpected” and said his wife and family were shocked. The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause, and asked for privacy. Cornell was found dead in the bathroom of his room at the MGM Grand Detroit hotel, after Cornell’s wife asked a family friend to check up on him. Detroit police spokesman Michael Woody told Associated Press that the death was being treated as a possible suicide. Cornell had been touring with Soundgarden, and was tweeting upbeat messages about a sold-out concert the band played in Detroit just hours before his death. Jimmy Page twittered: "RIP Chris Cornell/Incredibly Talented/Incredibly Young/Incredibly Missed." Soundgarden were part of the Pacific Northwestern grunge scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, coming up alongside bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam – Cornell recorded a 1991 album with the latter under the name Temple of the Dog. Like Nirvana, Soundgarden were first signed to indie label Sub Pop before making the jump to a major, taking their heavy, angsty sound into the mainstream with singles like Black Hole Sun.- The Guardian Thanks to Spacebandit for sharing the show at Dime. Spacebandit noted: This is an excellent-sounding soundboard audio from early 1989. There’s a lot of reverb on Chris’ voice and his guitar doesn’t seemed to be mixed all that loudly, but Kim comes through loud (and I mean LOUD) and clear. This is a fantastic show with TONS of energy and Soundgarden at the top of their game. Highly recommended. Come with me. A generation ago, the astronomer Carl Sagan stood here and launched hundreds of millions of us on a great adventure: the exploration of the universe revealed by science. It's time to get going again. We're about to begin a journey that will take us from the infinitesimal to the infinite, from the dawn of time to the distant future. We'll explore galaxies and suns and worlds, surf the gravity waves of space-time, encounter beings that live in fire and ice, explore the planets of stars that never die, discover atoms as massive as suns and universes smaller than atoms. Cosmos is also a story about us. It's the saga of how wandering bands of hunters and gatherers found their way to the stars, one adventure with many heroes.

  • When I Open My Eyes, I'm Floating in the Air in an Inky, Black Void. the Air Feels Cold to the Touch, My Body Shivering As I Instinctively Hugged Myself
When I open my eyes, I'm floating in the air in an inky, black void. The air feels cold to the touch, my body shivering as I instinctively hugged myself. My first thought was that this was an awfully vivid nightmare and that someone must have left the AC on overnight. I was more than a little alarmed when I wasn't quite waking up, and that pinching myself had about the same amount of pain as it would if I did it normally. A single star twinkled into existence in the empty void, far and away from reach. Then another. And another. Soon, the emptiness was full of shining stars, and I found myself staring in wonder. I had momentarily forgotten about the biting cold at this breath-taking sight before a wooden door slammed itself into my face, making me fall over and land on a tile ground. I'm pretty sure that wasn't there before. Also, OW. Standing up and not having much better to do, I opened the door. Inside was a room with several televisions stacked on top of each other, with a short figure wrapped in a blanket playing on an old NES while seven different games played out on the screen. They turned around and looked at me, blinking twice with a piece of pocky in their mouth. I stared at her. She stared back at me. Then she picked up a controller laying on the floor and offered it to me. "Want to play?" "So you've been here all alone?" I asked, staring at her in confusion, holding the controller as I sat nearby.

As a consequence, discussions about what constitutes sound quality have been raised. This paper investigates to what extent dynamic range reduction affects perceived sound quality of popular music when loudness normalized in accordance with ITU-R BS. 1770-2. The results show that perceived sound quality was not affected by as much as -9 dB of average gain reduction.
