Dear Iain,

There are so many reasons why I feel you deserve this fan book and more recognition for the work you do. Your ability to portray another person’s life and personality even when it is so far from your own has always enthralled me.

I had already been a fan for many years when you were cast in as Ser Jorah Mormont so I was very excited to see how you would portray Jorah. When the first series was broadcast neither I nor other fans knew how much we would be immersed in this wonderful programme and in particular your character Ser Jorah Mormont.

Spending so much time involved in supporting someone, running the website, creating a place for fans to come together, creating the fan group as a fan, I feel this immense sense of pride for every achievement, every award that you receive or a show or stage play that you are involved in receives, every moment that you - the actor - makes someone’s life a little bit happier and brighter by just doing what you do best.

You have also brought people together. For me, the owner of the iainglenfans.org and serjorahsarmy.com websites, and for the most loyal fans who play their part in regularly keeping the website and it’s gallery and social network pages updated and full of activity, it’s a story of friendship, from being strangers we’ve all become friends from all over the world.

So this fan book is a massive thank you for all the work you do, for making characters such as our faves Jorah Mormont and Jack Taylor come alive. It’s our way of showing you that you are loved, appreciated and respected and for letting us share this wonderful, amazing life experience with you.

The Glennies xx

Dear Iain, Thank you for being my main inspiration everyday. At times it feels like you are my guardian angel helping me get through some really tough times in my life by your kindness, your ability to help me escape into the world of your characters and you just being you! Sarah (Sarz), UK xxx

Dear Iain, I have been a HUGE fan for several years now, even before Game of Thrones or Jack Taylor. I first saw you in the movie “The Wyvern Mystery” and that’s all it took. I then saw you in “Song for a Raggy Boy”. I knew at that moment that you were the finest actor living today and I would be a fan forever. I have enjoyed so many of your projects and most recent, of course, Game of Thrones and Jack Taylor, but there have been so many other amazing treasures to choose from. I just want to say “Thank You” for your amazing talent and for being such a wonderful human being. The world needs more people like you. Blessings to you and your family, and I look forward to watching more of your remarkable work. Connie Roberts, Queensland, Australia

Dear Iain, I first saw you in and have been a big fan for years. I met you at London Film and Comic Con in 2012 before I ever got into Game of Thrones. Hi Iain! I'm a 20-year-old Italian girl and think you are fantastic actor...thank you very much for this website! I wish you every joy and lots of happiness. Angelita, Italy

Iain Glen has been so iconic to me in his acting roles (especially Game of Thrones,) how he makes a not so much of a favourite in the book series of a song of ice and fire, to make him a fan favourite to everyone (most people) and still portraying Jorah well. He's most definitely my favourite character in Game Of Thrones and he's the one who gets my heart beating as I worry that he might not live on to another episode (in show death), and he has introduced me to other roles of him I hadn't seen before, how he introduced me to a new line of shows which grip me by his impeccable acting skills. He has inspired me, watching him do what he does makes me happy. Noah, UK (aged 14)

Banished

Her words pierced my heart like Valyrian steel, It couldn’t be a dream then it must be real. How could it have to come to this? To be banished plunged me into an abyss

“I have loved you”, I said to her I am your friend, your old bear But she did not want to know Khaleesi, please…don’t let me go

But it was too late; the damage done King’s Landing and Tywin had won.

Hi Iain! My name is Julia and I’m from Sweden. I am a big fan of Game Of Thrones and while I have always liked Jorah, this 5th season I’ve realized how much I really love him and also Jorah and Daenerys together. The scene in season 4 when she banished him broke my heart as much as my heart sang when they were reunited again this season. I wish season 6 will come up with good stuff for them and also that Jorah’s greyscale will get cured. I know you also like them together so why don’t you try to convince the script writers to write some really great scenes for them, maybe even the kiss which we haven’t gotten yet? :) You’re an incredibly good actor and one of the best actors in the show. I hope Jorah will live longer and good luck with your future career. Best wishes, Julia Claeson, Sweden

Hi Iain, I hope you're having a wonderful day, just want you to know how much I admire your work and your person. You are an amazing human being. That you have a Big fan across the oceans; I’m Mexican. I live in Monterrey, México and the only thing I truly regret of living here is that you are so far far away from me, wherever you could be, at a comic con, at any event that involves your presence and it will never be possible to meet you, just have a picture with you, or just look at those beautiful blue eyes and perfect smile, a shame.

But letting all these unfortunate events in life aside, I wish you a very happy life, best wishes in the world and all the bright and good vibes in the universe. Be good and keep making us (your fans) happy and proud of you. With love, Alejandra Martinez, Monterrey, México

Iain,

As a professional actor myself, I find your work to be among the very best. Your sincerity and devotion for the craft is inspiring, and it is always a delight to watch you perform. You're a steady reminder of what is inherently good in this profession, and you are a touchstone of authenticity.

An acting professor in New York City once told me that acting is the noblest of professions, because it is a mirror in which we all can examine our humanity; you succeed admirably in upholding this truth, and for that I hope you continue to do what it is that you do. Thank you for inspiring us all. Sincerest regards, Emilee Foster, Tucson, Arizona

Hi Iain! I wanted to leave you a note and say how much I've enjoyed being kept up to date with your latest projects on the iainglenfans website. Keep doing what you're doing and bringing smiles to lots of faces. Best regards, Corey Birkhofery

Iain, I honestly think that you are an awesome actor. I have seen much of your work online and can't wait to purchase the movies you appear in. Your deserve a lot more recognition for your role in Game of Thrones. I’m so glad you have made it to Series 6. Tony West, USA

Hi Iain, It is good to read that you are into some very exciting projects. We look forward to reading about all the issues that are in the pipeline. As always you can rely on our support in whatever you are doing. Our love to you, Rose & Jamie, NY, USA

The Bear and the Maiden Fair

“What do you pray for, Ser Jorah?” she once asked. Home,” I replied.

Today I cross the borderlands with this girl, the Khaleesi, no more than seventeen summers. Three days ago she lost her son. Two days ago she lost her husband. Yesterday, she nursed three dragons, the last wild things I saw in this red waste that sprawls into heartbreaking infinity. Without water the horses will die in two days and so will we. What vision for us does she see in her dreams?

She didn’t notice me watching her tuck a dirty strand of her blond hair out of her eye, nor eat the peach I gave her from our stop in the oasis, nor rub her chapped lips together.

Here in this savage land the people have no words for “Thank you” but a hundred for horses. My fair wife Lynesse hated the North and left me for summer and a man without a beard. Now I can’t remember her face nor what she liked best for supper.

I will always be the Khaleesi’s devoted knight: a former slaver with bad knees, bad debt and a bald spot. A traitor. I spied on her in exchange for a royal pardon, to return to Bear Island, but that was before she made me her pilgrim.

Alice Osborn, North Carolina (poem)

Dear Iain,

I had to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your brilliant work. I admire every single performance you have given, each is so different from the other. Your work moves me deeply, Jack Taylor most of all.

I loved and lost someone close to me from drinking, you truly capture a basically good person struggling with the terrible disease of alcoholism. You have helped me greatly in still loving this person and also in letting them go.

I wish you nothing but continued success in your career and happiness in life. Best wishes, Kimberly Scott, IL USA

Dear Iain, How are you? Where to start? It is not easy to speak in a language that is not their own, but I'll try. First of all I would like to thank you for the wonderful contribution that you give to film and television; you are a very talented actor. Make real and alive every character you play, be it a supporting role (such as Dr. Jung) or a peripheral character (Orestes in The Last Legion). Jack Taylor is leaving its mark, tormented with a difficult past, fights his demons every day.

Jorah Mormont is, if anything, even more real. It's not foolproof, err and also his love is unrequited, tormented and yet it's tough, loyal, heroic and romantic - perhaps a bit 'deluded - and I have a weakness for such characters; the fifth season has allowed us to appreciate even more this character. I hope, as I believe many others, in a happy ending, so not only in the sixth season, we hope to see you again also in the seventh. I greet you with a quote from a famous Italian singer: Good journey of life. Love, an Italian fan, Patrizia Riet

Dearest Iain,

I would like to thank you for the years of enjoyment and entertainment I have had, watching your wonderful performances on screen and television. I first saw you in "Mountains of the Moon" in 1991 and was totally captivated, and have followed you ever since. Unfortunately, living in Australia means I've never had the opportunity to see you perform on stage (one of my keenest wishes!) but I live in hope that I will make it back to the UK at the right time in the future. I will say, however, that your reading of Samson Agonistes absolutely blew me away!! I remember struggling with it in high school, hating Milton for writing such convoluted clap-trap - but one listen- through of your performance and I'm addicted!!

I am constantly moved almost to tears by your first...(is it soliloquy?...see, I really didn't pay attention at school!!!) - the depth of emotion you convey is astonishing! I could easily wax lyrical about each & every role I've see you in but that would take up this whole book!!

Your marvellous flawed Jack Taylor, your brilliant blind magistrate John Fielding, the handsome Richard Carlisle, endearing Otto Frank, would-be country singer Doug, evil Manfred Powell, dashing Alan Breck, the brave Tim Page, to name just a few!...but of course, no list is complete without mentioning the obvious! Jorah Mormont - goodness me, just saying the name makes my heart jump!! You have breathed such beautiful life into this marvellous, loyal, devoted knight - my most loved character on the whole show!

Thank you a thousand times over, for the total happiness you bring with every performance. I wish you all the very, very best for the future and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the life you have given to each and every character that you share with us, your devoted audience! With much love (and adoration!!). Xxxx Nerida, Australia

(Short story)

Daenerys was wiping away the tears when she heard footsteps at the entrance to her chambers. She knew at this hour the only possible human being standing there, would be Jorah. He was too smart to fool. He saw the sorrow in her eyes before the tears covered her cheeks and made her disappear from the council's meeting. Daario Naharis left her without saying a word to her after he crawled out of her bed, after they made love.

“Khaleesi?” Jorah always used her former tittle despite Daario and ser Barristan calling her 'your Grace'. “May I be of any help?” He saw her lavender eyes reddened with crying. She was hugging herself; a defence position she used whenever she felt let down or defeated.

“He...he left me...I'm...alone...alone against the world, Jorah. And I can't win alone.” Jorah approached her, holding the hilt of his sword as he walked towards her.

Since Daario left with a couple of his Second Sons, Jorah was appointed Daenerys' Commander of her Queensguard. The majority suspected ser Barristan Selmy to be one of the alleged helpers of the little rebel group, and was immediately removed from his former post as a member of the Queensguard. Jorah's job was never to leave her out of his sight. And he felt needed at her side more than ever.

“You are not alone, Khaleesi.” He felt her blue dress brushing against his kilt. “I'm sworn to protect you to my last breath and to give you advice.” He leaned his head to one side. “Forget him. I know how hard that is and how much it takes but you cannot rule if someone else rules over you.” Like Lynesse ruled over me...

She lifted up her head, her eyes meeting his, and she saw the pain so familiar to her. “Love lifts you up or brings you down. It can give you power or destroy you. It can give you happiness...or endless pain. There is no middle ground. It takes some time for us to learn what person brings us joy and who never to trust again. Sometimes,

doing everything we can for a person we love who doesn't love us back...” His voice trembled as he looked her right into her eyes. “And sometimes we fall in love with the wrong person. A person who cannot love us back. And that's when we end up with a broken heart beyond repair. That heart will never feel again...” She pressed her finger lightly on his lips, feeling a tear on his cheek. “Then feel again, Jorah,” she said, kissing him softly. Tamara.paho, Slovenia

I'll die for you (poem)

Cold as steel your words, three times you denied me forgiveness three times my heart trembled and is cut but in front of the blade of Bravoosi my heart don’t trembles, there is no longer life. Crossing your eyes one last time, "I die for you, Daenerys." In your purple eyes I see determination ... and fear. I smile. But today death won’t have me and will not even you. Is a blink of an eye, a Spear thrown and your hand is in mine, blue and purple, meet again and my heart starts to beat. Patrizia Riet

Hi Iain, I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for giving me and so many others countless hours of enjoyment over the years. I remember the first time I saw you on stage at the Donmar in The Blue Room. It was quite an eye opener and most enjoyable! I hope you do some more theatre work soon. I missed you at last year as you were ill so I really hope you are well and healthy. Richard Holm, Scotland

Dear Iain Glen,

I have been a huge fan of yours ever since I saw you in and then Wives & Daughters. That's how I first found about you, because I was very fond of period dramas. I watch GoT only for you, to be honest. You are amazing! Jorah is my favourite character (both show and books).

I really like how you portray him; incredible! And your voice is amazing. Jack Taylor is my hero as well. :) 24

Furthermore, I gained a great deal of respect for you as a person because of how you treated your fans. You are a real gentleman. Thanks so much for being an inspiration. Thank you for everything. I just wanted to say how much I love you. May you continue to be blessed with health and love. Best wishes. Gizem Erdemir/24 Turkey

Iain, Thank you for the wonderful contribution you have made to both stage and screen. I have enjoyed watching you bring Jorah to life. The emotions you have conveyed in that character are like nothing else. I must say that my heart has been aflutter many a time!

Here's wishing you every success in your future endeavors. I know you will go from strength to strength. Hoping to see you in Australia again soon, but please visit Melbourne next time!

Best wishes, Sylvia Bencik

Hello Mr. Iain Glen!

Greetings from a fan from the Philippines! I first knew of you from the Game of Thrones TV series and just could not stop loving Ser Jorah Mormont's character. You play him so well.

The show's Jorah is kinder than in the books, hehe, but it's amazing how you bring so much life into him, especially since all of Jorah's appearance in the books are only based from Daenerys' point of view. Big cheers to the crew then for the writing, the trust, and knowledge of the characters.

Anyhoo, been trying to check out other works of yours and am really loving the Jack Taylor movies (plus Ken Bruen's writing, oh man he's so good), Vagabond Shoes, and Slapper. Oh boy you really love making the audience cry don'cha, but you bring much smiles to your fans whenever you appear on screen. It's kind of cool to find out these works of yours through the internet (Yay, internet!) since most of them are not available in my country.

(Thanks, Amazon.com haha) Simply want to say, you're brilliant in the work that you do and it's inspiring how much love you have for your craft when you express them in interviews. Much love to you, Mr. Glen, and God bless you the family as well. And if you're not religious, a very good day to you. Regards, Mayan Manila, Philippines

Dear Iain

My name is Julia. I have been a big fan of your work since I first found out about you in season 1 of Game of Thrones. Since then I have discovered your extensive, versatile work and always found it inspirational.

No matter if you play a rough Irish ex-Garda, or a self-made newspaper owner willing to blackmail his bride-to-be, a biblical patriarch, a video game villain, a psychotherapist, a priest from the future who fights dark weeping angels, a violent prisoner, a danish prince or the most devoted knight in Westeros, you make me care and root for the character, feel every character's emotions and dive deep into the stories.

I've never met you but you always seem to be so polite and care for your fans, and I think that is an admirable quality. I'm looking forward to meeting you at London Film and Comic Con, and I hope that some day I can also see you on stage in London. Best of luck to you in the future. I'm sure great things lie ahead!

From your biggest fan, Julia Fernández, London

Dearest Iain.

I first saw you in an Amazing show called Game of Thrones. I immediately fell in love with your character and your incredible acting.

I then started to watch all your films and you instantly became one of my favourite actors! Your Incredible, and I cant wait to see more of your work in the future.

All my best wishes and much love, Abigail Diaz

I love you in Jack Taylor and I plan to read the books soon. But I have to say my favourite performance of yours has to be Ser Jorah.
