To acquire the basic genetic, ecological, and reproductive data currently lacking on Ambrosia cheiranthifolia necessary to manage of extant populations scientifically and to write an evidence- based protocol for future reintroduction efforts. In accordance with the Endangered Species Act, Section 4(f)(1), and to the maximum extent practicable, recovery plans delineate reasonable actions that are believed to be required to recover or protect listed species. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service publishes recovery plans. Recover Plans are sometimes prepared with assistance from recovery teams, contractors, state agencies, and other affected and interested parties. The public reviews the plans and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service submits them for additional peer review before adoption. Plan objectives will be attained and any necessary funds made available subject to budgetary and other constraints affecting the parties involved, as well as the need to address other priorities. Recovery plans do not obligate other parties to undertake specific tasks and may not necessarily represent the views nor the official positions or approval of any individuals or agencies involved in the plan formulation, other than the U.S. -

(French), dhaman (Hindi) Synonym Cenchrus ciliaris , L. Cenchrus glaucus , C. R. Mudaliar & Sundararaj Pennisetum cenchroides , Rich. Pennisetum incomptum , Nees ex Steud. Similar species Summary Cenchrus ciliaris (Pennisetum ciliare), commonly known as buffel grass, is a perennial bunchgrass that forms thick mats. It is also known by its basionym Cenchrus ciliaris. Buffel grass has been widely introduced in the dry tropics and subtropics as a pasture grass, for erosion control and revegetation of arid areas. The characteristics of buffel grass which make it suitable for erosion control are rapid germination, high propogation and establishment rates on poor and infertile soils. Buffel grass's dominance and resistance to fire, drought and heavy grazing on arid soils make it a suitable arid zone pasture grass. In Australia, the south-western United States and Mexico (where it has been introduced as a pasture grass and for erosion control) Buffel grass often forms extensive dense monocultures excluding native species and promoting intense and frequent fires. It is widely distributed and is resilient to a number of harsh environmental conditions. It changes plant communities by encouraging and carrying wildfires through communities that are not adapted to fire. It burns readily and recovers quickly after fire. Buffel grass has a robust root system; its swollen stem base accumulates carbohydrate reserves, so the loss of leaf surface area after a fire or drought is not fatal to the plant and allows regrowth in favourable conditions. -

Torr. Native, warm-season perennial growing 16–60" tall. • Seed heads are up to 15" long, moderately open with many seed tipped branches forming a pyramid shape. • Leaves are flat and then margins roll inward after emergence. Base of many stems appear bleached and shiny. • Mid successional species found on a variety of soils including saline sites. • Valuable as a restoration species for disturbed saline and alkaline sites. • Blooms April–September. • Alkali Sacaton is a desirable, native species • Blades are long and slender and are hairy at the throat. • 1,758,000 seeds per pound.
