  • A Study on Marketing of Chillies Inthoothukudi District of Tamil Nadu
Click www.researchjournal.co.in/online/subdetail.html to purchase. IJCBM International Journal of Commerce and Business Management RESEARCH Volume 7 | Issue 1 | April, 2014 | 58-62 PAPER A study on marketing of chillies inThoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu T. SAMSAI, S. PRAVEENA, K. DIVYA AND C. VELAVAN Received : 23.10.2013; Revised : 05.02.2014; Accepted : 07.03.2014 ABSTRACT India is the largest producer and consumer of chillies in the world. In Tamil Nadu, Thoothkudi district occupied the major area and production. Efficient marketing of chillies plays an important role in increasing the production. Forty sample farmers were selected at random from Kovilpatti block of Thoothukudi district. The data were collected by personal interview method during the year 2011-12. Price spread, Acharya and Shepherd’s marketing efficiency index were worked out. The results of the study revealed that all the sample farmers stored chillies in gunny bags. Three marketing channels were identified for chillies. The maximum producers share in consumer rupee (71.05%) was found in channel I. The Shepherd’s index and Acharya marketing efficiency index also indicated that channel I was the efficient one. The major sources of market information were traders, neighbours, and friends. It was learnt that the farmers’ decision on cropping pattern, time of sale and place of sale were influenced by the market information. Intermediaries’ margin, low price, high marketing cost and forced sale were found as the important constraints in marketing of chillies. KEY WORDS : Chillies, Price spread, Marketing efficiency index How to cite this paper : Samsai, T. Praveena, S.

  • Tn – Iamwarm Project Uppathurar Sub Basin
TN – IAMWARM PROJECT UPPATHURAR SUB BASIN DETAILED PROJECT REPORT WATER RESOURCE DEPARTMENT 1.1 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION GENERAL: Agriculture is the dominant sector in the Indian economy. Tamilnadu, which is supposed to be the next state to Rajasthan in average annual rain fall depends largely on the surface water irrigation as well as ground water irrigation. The state has used the surface and ground water potentials to the maximum limit and hence the future development and expansion depends only on the efficient and economical use of water potential and resources available. To achieve the water use efficiency it is necessary to improve and upgrade the existing conveyance system and also to introduce modern irrigation methods. With the above objectives a comprehensive programme has been proposed with Multi disciplinary approach. DESCRIPTION OF THE VAIPPAR BASIN: The Vaippar river Basin is one of the Major river basins in TamilNadu having a drainage area of 5423 Sqkm. It is bounded by Vaigai basin and Western Ghats on the western side. Tamarabarani and Kallar river basin on southern side and Gundar river basin on northern side. The basin area is covered in 4 districts namely Virudhunagar 68%, Thoothukudi 20%, Madurai 7%, and Thirunelveli 5%. The length of the Vaippar river is 112 kms finally it debouches in to Gulf of manner. This basin has been divided into 13 Sub-basins namely as follows: 1. Nichabhanadhi 2. Kalinkalar 3. Deviar 4. Nagariyar 5. Sevalperiyar 7. Vallampatti odai. 8. Sindapalli Uppodai 9. Arjunanadhi 10. Gowshiganadhi 11. Uppathurar 12. Senkottaiyar 13. • THOOTHUKUDI DISTRICT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY DISTRICT HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT THOOTHUKUDI DISTRICT Introduction
THOOTHUKUDI DISTRICT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY DISTRICT HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT THOOTHUKUDI DISTRICT Introduction On the 20th, October 1986 a new district, carved out of the erstwhile Tirunelveli district was born in Tamil Nadu and named after V.O.Chidambaranar, a great national leader hailing from Ottapidaram who led the Swadeshi Movement in the south. Since 1997 as in the case of other districts of Tamilnadu, this district has also been named after its headquarters town, Thoothukudi. The district of Thoothukudi has made notable strides in the development spheres over the past few decades. Among these are agriculture, horticulture and food processing, manufacturing and rural industry as well as communications and road infrastructure. However, its performance in the three core human development areas of education, public health and employment has had to negotiate the twin challenges posed by rapid growth of the district population and shrinkage of the land unit per farm family. There are three Revenue divisions (namely Thoothukudi, Tiruchendur and Kovilpatti), eight taluks and 12 blocks in the district. This district comprises 20 town panchayats two municipalities and one corporation. There are 468 revenue villages, grouped in 408 village panchayats. 1 Geography Thoothukudi district is bound by Virudhunagar district in the north, Tirunelveli district in the south and west, the Bay of Bengal in the east. The total area of the district is 4621 square kilometers. Topography The river Tamirabarani flows through this district. The area under the river basin within the district is 78,698.8 hectares. According to topography, the district can be divided into three regions. The northern part consisting of black soil, mostly dependent on seasonal rainfall for agriculture; the central part is irrigated by water flow from the Western Ghats; and the southern part is red loam area.

  • Vaippar Main River Sub Basin
TN – IAMWARM PROJECT VAIPPAR MAIN RIVER SUB BASIN WATER RESOURCE DEPARTMENT 1. WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT 1.1 INTRODUCTION 1.1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL: Agriculture is the dominant sector in the Indian economy. Tamil Nadu, which is supposed to be the next state to Rajasthan in average annual rain fall depends largely on the surface water irrigation as well as ground water irrigation. The state has used the surface and ground water potential to the maximum limit and hence the future development and expansion depends only on the efficient and economical use of water potential and resources available. To achieve the water use efficiency it is necessary to improve and upgrade the existing conveyance system and also to introduce modern irrigation methods. With the above objectives a comprehensive programme has been proposed with Multi disciplinary approach. 1.2 DESCRIPTION OF THE VAIPPAR BASIN: The Vaippar river Basin is one of the Major river basins in Tamil Nadu having a drainage area of 5423 Sqkm. It is bounded by Vaigai basin and western ghats on the western side, Tamarabarani and Kallar river basin on southern side and Gundar river basin on northern side. The basin area is covered in 4 districts namely Virudhunagar 68%, Thoothukudi 20% Madurai 7% and Thirunelveli 5%. The length of the Vaippar river is 112 kms finally it debouches in to Gulf of Mannar. This basin has been divided into 13 sub-basins namely as follows: 1. Nichabhanadhi 2. Kalinkalar 3. Deviar 4. Nagariyar 5. Sevalperiyar 6. Kayalkudiyar 7. Vallampatti odai 8. Sindaplli Uppodai 9.
