Mangalore University has been striving to be one of the premier Universities at the national level in terms of research, curricular and co-curricular activities. We have been able to admit a good number of international students from different parts of the world for UG, PG and Ph.D programmes in various disciplines. With the inauguration of CARER an addition has been made to our central facilities for research like CARRT, PURSE, Microtron Centre, etc. The Adjunct Professors are motivating the students and faculties with their expertise by delivering special lectures. The University promotes interdisciplinary programmes at research levels. The University administration is bringing all the constituent and affiliated colleges closer to the mainstream and discussing the issues on various platforms to promote quality of teaching and inculcate research among UG teachers. Our students have performed well in sports and cultural activities. We have won the second place in the All India Inter University Athletic Championship and have been runners up in the All India Inter University Youth Festival. I congratulate the faculty and students for their cooperation in all our efforts towards achieving excellence in higher education and research. I appreciate the efforts of the editorial committee in bringing out this issue of the Newsletter. Prof K. Byrappa VICE- CHANCELLOR 7 SEMINARS / WORKSHOPS ORGANIZED BY VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS APPLIED ZOOLOGY Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic science and Dharmanidhi Yoga Peetha Two day workshop on Zoo Taxonomy was conducted by the Department of Applied Zoology, during March 28-29, 2016 under UGC SAP programme. The workshop was inaugurated by Professor C. A. Viraktamath, Chairman, Department of Entomology, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK Campus. Professor K. Byrappa, Vice- Chancellor, Mangalore University presided. The “Workshop on Zoo Taxonomy” brought together over 120 delegates, speakers and other participants from a wide range of disciplines. Sri . The Department of Commerce, Mangalore Yoga Day Celebration University organised a two day State Level Research Methodology Workshop for Newly recognized Research Guides in Social Sciences during March, 5-6, 2016. 65 members participated in the workshop. The Department of Commerce, Mangalore University organised a two-day National Conference on ‘Business Education and Employability: Challenges and New Directions’, during April 29-30, 2016. About 135 members participated in the National Conference. HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS AND YOGIC Prof. K.
