Good Neighbor Spring Branch Isd GOOD NEIGHBOR SPRING BRANCH ISD PARTNER PROGRAM Greatness #Collective We are thankful. Dear Friends and SBISD Good Neighbors, Reflecting on our students’ progress in the three years since the launch of our strategic plan, The Learner’s Journey, we have much for which to be thankful, and much to celebrate. Our highest and deepest gratitude goes to you – our Class of 2018 Good Neighbors – for your commitment to the success of Every Child we serve. In the immediate aftermath and every day since Hurricane Harvey rained devastation and destruction on our city last year, displacing over a thousand SBISD staff members and families of SBISD students, your Collective Greatness has been a bright light illuminating the power, the heart, and the generosity of our community. You are truly difference makers. SBISD continues to be guided by our single-focused T-2-4 goal for every SBISD graduate to attain a technical certification, military training, or a 2-year or 4-year degree. To ensure Every Child is ready to meet this challenge, we hold ourselves accountable to multiple measures of improvement and success. We also look holistically at our students’ educational experience. Is Every Child making academic progress? Prepared for post-secondary success? Making connections beyond the classroom? These questions continue to drive our work. You help us answer, “yes” through your partnership and service in SBISD. As mentors, reading buddies, after school and enrichment providers, you deepen our students’ school lives and help them be better prepared for T-2-4 success. You provide weekend food for children who would otherwise go hungry and books for home libraries where otherwise there would be none. You provide teacher appreciation treats, bringing smiles and the message to our educators that our community cares and supports their work. No matter how you help – in ways big and small – you are there, supporting not only the academic needs, but also the social-emotional, physical and mental health needs of our children, families, schools and staff in an ever-more demanding world. With your support, we have narrowed academic gaps while increasing academic achievement. Our SAT and ACT scores, and college-ready rates continue to lead at region and state levels. Your collaboration helps make these achievements possible. Together, we are shaping our children for the future - a future filled with promise and purpose. We appreciate your continued support and partnership as we prepare our students and families for tomorrow. Thank you for joining us on our journey! With gratitude, Scott R. Muri, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools Great supports. Great results. Great futures. These are just a few of the ways we measured the Collective Greatness of SBISD Good Neighbors and partners: 11,078 251 Approved 200,000+ Class of 2018 Volunteers Good Neighbors Volunteer Hours $5 M Est. • Powerful Partnership Practices 2009
Forward Texas Association of Partners in Education would like to express our gratitude to each district and organization who participated in the first edition of “Soaring to New Heights in Education: Powerful Partnerships Across Texas”. Through each of these programs, you have extended a helping hand to numerous Texas youth, and have exemplified the innovative partnerships, that are sure to be emulated across the state. On behalf of the TAPE Board of Directors, members, students and recipients of this publication, TAPE would also like to thank Applied Materials for supporting this publication through a grant. I know it is not recognition you seek, but this is a deed we will not allow to go unrecognized– education and academic excellence is and will continue to be a team effort. This grant provides an invaluable opportunity for TAPE to share best practices, so again we thank everyone for participating in the 2009 “Powerful Partnerships Across Texas” Sincerely, Allison Murray TAPE President Texas Association of Partners in Education 1 Introduction It is always exciting to learn about innovative partnerships being developed by Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE) members. With the ever changing needs of today’s youth and shifting economy TAPE recognizes that community engagement and innovation are key for the success of all students. Partnerships are, and will continue to be, critical to ensure students receive the resources necessary for success. Through thirty years of promoting partnerships TAPE has facilitated the sharing of partnership stories through our statewide and regional events. After hearing these incredible stories for so many years and hearing from our members how much they have learned from these stories, we have begun to compile them into one resource.

NOTE: Single-campus districts must meet the performance targets required for the campus in order to demonstrate acceptable performance. The Texas Education Agency looks at three domains in determining a school’s accountability rating: Evaluates performance across all subjects for all Student students, on both general and alternate assessments, Achievement College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) indicators, and graduation rates. Measures district and campus outcomes in two areas: the School number of students that grew at least one year academically (or are on track) as measured by STAAR results and the achievement Progress of all students relative to districts or campuses with similar economically disadvantaged percentages.
