CLEVELAND CAVALIERS TEAM NOTES

BLATT NAMED COACH OF THE MONTH: Cavaliers Head Coach David Blatt was named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for games played in October and November. It marked the second time Blatt has earned Coach of the Month accolades (March 2015) as he became the fourth coach in Cavaliers history to win the award more than once, joining Lenny Wilkens (three times), Mike Fratello (two times) and Mike Brown (five times). It also marked the 13th time in franchise history a coach has won the honor. Blatt led the Cavaliers to the best record in the East during October/November at 13-4 (.765), including a perfect 9-0 at The Q. During that span, the Cavs averaged an Eastern Conference-best 103.1 points and surrendered just 96.5 points, en route to posting the best differential in the conference at +6.6 points per game. Cleveland also led the East in field goal percentage (.461) and three-pointers per game (10.2), while ranking second in defensive rebounds per game (35.9), third in assists per game (24.1) and fourth in total rebounds per game (46.5). Blatt is the first coach in Cavaliers history to win the award within the first month of a season.

DRAINING THREES: On the season, the Cavs are averaging an Eastern Conference-best 10.2 three-pointers made per game (3rd in NBA) on .359 shooting from behind the arc (9th in NBA).

 10 OR MORE: Cleveland has made at least 10 three-pointers on 10 occasions this season.  LOVE AND SMITH: Kevin Love (2.5, 9th in NBA) and J.R. Smith (2.3, 13th in NBA) are both connecting on over 2.0 three-pointers per game.  18 TRIPLES: In a 117-103 win over Orlando on Nov. 23, the Wine and Gold made a season-high 18-35 (.514) shots from beyond the arc, just one shy from tying their franchise record. Both Kevin Love and J.R. Smith hit six three-pointers, becoming the 2nd pair of Cavs players to ever accomplish that feat in the same game. The only other time two Cavs players knocked down six treys in the same game was March 5, 1996 vs. Seattle (Dan Majerle 6, Danny Ferry 6) (Elias).

THE DIFF: This season, the Cavaliers have outperformed their opponents in many areas:

 PPG: +4.9 points per game differential ranks 6th in the NBA (102.4 to 97.5).  RPG: +5.5 rebounds per game differential ranks 2nd in the NBA (46.4 to 40.9).  He became the 6th active player to reach the 25,000-point club, joining Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.  James reached 25,000 points in his 915th career game. The Canton Charge (2-4), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell on the road to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (6-3), 98-94, at the War Memorial Coliseum on Friday night (Dec. 4). The season series between the two Central Division rivals is now even at 1-1 with the home team taking each game. Nick Minnerath finished with a team-high 20 points with 4-of-7 three-point shooting to go along with nine rebounds in 25 minutes. CAVS AND MONSTERS ENCOURAGE FANS TO JOIN THEM IN DONATING TOYS FOR LOCAL CHILDREN IN NEED THIS HOLIDAY SEASON: With the holiday season upon us, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lake Erie Monsters are donating toys, and encouraging their fans to join them, to help make it a more festive time for underprivileged children in Northeast Ohio. Now through December 11th, the two teams will be holding their annual Toy Drive, presented by Step2, as part of the Cavaliers Season of Giving, presented by Nestle Baking. Beginning with the Nov. 25 Monsters game and Nov. 28th Cavs game, fans are asked to participate in the Toy Drive by bringing new, unwrapped toys to Quicken Loans Arena. Collection bins will be set up at the entrances of The Q for all home games for the two teams between now and December 11th. All donated toys will then be distributed to non-profit organizations throughout Northeast Ohio that work with underserved children.
