She was born Princess Marie Sophie Frederikke Dagmar on 26 November 1847, at the Yellow Palace in Copenhagen. Her father was Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (Later King Christian IX of Denmark) and mother was Princess Louise of Hesse. On June 11, 1866, the Tsarevich and Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich decided to make a proposal, and wrote to his father about that day: “I was about to talk with her several times, but I couldn’t decide everything, although we were several times together. When we looked at a photographic album together, my thoughts were not at all on the pictures; I was just thinking how to proceed with my request. Finally, I decided, and did not even have time to say what I wanted. Minnie rushed over my neck and cried. Of course, I also could not refrain from tears. I told her that our dear Nixa prays a lot for us and, of course, at this moment is happy with us. Tears flowed from me. I asked her if she could love anyone else besides dear Nixa. She told me that no one but his brother, and again we hugged tight. We talked a lot and remembered about Nixa, about the last days of his life in Nice and his demise.     A PILGRIMAGE FROM THE BRITISH ISLES TO THE TSAR’S GOLGOTHA 14th – 22nd of July 2018 by Maria Harwood, Chairman of GDERS, UK (edited by J.M.Harwood and D.J.Gilchrist) In memory of the centenary of the martyrdom of the last Romanovs, the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Romanov Society in the UK organised a pilgrimage to Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Alapaevsk and Tobolsk. This pilgrimage, which took place from 14th to 22nd July 2018, was a continuation of the commemorative events on the Isle of Wight, near the Palace of Queen Victoria (Osborne House), where the monument to the Russian Imperial Family and to the Grand Duchess Elizabeth was solemnly unveiled. The pilgrimage started in Moscow in the recently built church of the New Martyrs of Russia at Sretensky Monastery, where part of our group prayed during the Vigil service on Saturday 14th July, before flying to Ekaterinburg next morning. In Ekaterinburg we were met by a representative from the Church of All the Saints of Russia, the “Church on the Blood”, our guide Natalia, who conveyed greetings to us from the dean of the church, Father Maxim. Our spiritual leader was Archpriest Andrew Phillips of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, the rector of St. John of Shanghai church in Colchester, a well-known church historian. In May 2018, he had established a new Orthodox community in Kent, dedicated to the Holy Royal Martyrs of Russia. To venerate the “Tsar’s Golgotha” in Ekaterinburg was his long-time dream. We arrived just one and half days before the central event of the Ekaterinburg commemorative programme – the Liturgy at the Church on the Blood (built on the site of the Ipatiev House where the Imperial Family were imprisoned and executed by Bolsheviks,), to the mineshaft called Ganina Yama (Gania’s Pit) where some remains of the Martyrs were found.

It was a scientific conference devoted to "Russian Empire on the eve of revolutionary upheavals. On the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution of 1917". As the name implies, the conference dedicated to the situation in the Russian Empire on the eve of the February and October revolutions. Scientists discussed the state of the economy in this period, inter- ethnic relations, the everyday life of the Russian society and other issues. In addition, several round tables were organized. One Round table titled "The abduction and murder in Perm of Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov" was held in conjunction with the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. They discussed versions of the crime, the search for documents and evidence in the archives, and the work on how to find the remains of the Grand Duke in Perm and the surrounding area. Perm investigators took up the murder case of Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich 18.11. - Investigative Committee of Russia's Perm region took up the murder case in Perm of Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich, brother of Emperor Nicholas II. In Saratov a poster was again noticed with apologies to Emperor Nicholas II. This year it was placed in the micro district of the Agricultural Institute and on 50 Years October Avenue. It is written on the banner: “Forgive us, Sovereign!”. Also is mentioned that July 17th is the day of the martyrdom of the Imperial Family. It was said that the organizer of the advertising campaign is a Moscow monarchist. In some areas of Lipetsk - Katukova Street, Central Market, Koltsevaya Square, locals saw billboards, depicting the family of Emperor Nicholas II, and the inscription: "Forgive me, my Sovereign!". In social networks, many express their discontent about this. However, the content of the billboard does not violate the law on advertising, so it hangs here as much as the customer wants.     Romanov News Новости Романовых By Ludmila & Paul Kulikovsky №№110000 July 2016 The Royal procession gathered thousands of believers in Yekaterinburg The traditional Royal procession from the Church on the Blood to the monastery of the Holy Royal Martyrs was held on the night of 16 – 17 of July, 2016 in Yekaterinburg. The pilgrims walked about 20 kilometers. On the eve at the Church-on-Blood, Divine Liturgy was held, headed by Metropolitan Kirill of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye. On the porch before the church the traditionally high altar was built. Metropolitan Kirill concelebrated with a host of bishops of the ROC, including the Central Asian Metropolitan Vincent, Ukrainian Metropolitan Jonathan, and Azerbaijani Archbishop Alexander. Governor of Sverdlovsk region Evgeny Kuyvashev met the clergy. At the beginning of the fourth vigil after the Divine Liturgy, the faithful began the prayer procession along the route from the city center to Ganina Yama, the same way which bodies of the Imperial family members and their loyal servants were taken in 1918. The procession was headed by Metropolitan Kirill of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye and clergy. The procession along its entire length was accompanied by 25 mobile teams of Orthodox Mercy Service, assisting pilgrims. The group included priests, sisters and volunteers, as well as representatives of the Holy Dormition brotherhood of Yekaterinburg diocese. After about 7 hours and 30 minutes in the morning the procession reached the monastery of the Holy Royal Martyrs at Ganina pit. There moleben was served for the Saint Regal Martyrs. This is properly also why some of my relatives have chosen to be in St. Petersburg in these days. Some only see it as a place of murder, think about the victims, and becomes sad. They do not see anything joyful in it. I, also had difficulties in coming to Yekaterinburg the first time and only because it was a part of a larger pilgrimage, going to many holy places in the region, I accepted to go, and that only a few years ago. However, thinking more about it, I came to realize, that it was odd to think so and it did not reflect historical reality. I knew better, but chose to see it in one dimension only. Murder of members of my family have happened also in St. Petersburg and that much earlier than in Yekaterinburg and Alapevsk - Emperor Peter III, Emperor Paul I, and Emperor Alexander II, just to mention some of the most prominent ancestors murdered in St. Petersburg. And I can add Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich who was killed in Moscow. But nobody is talking about that they cannot go to these cities because of these murders.
