Game 5 Notes Georgia (Final).Qxd Oct. 3, 2009 • 2:30 p.m. CDT • CBS GAME 5 at Georgia Athens, Ga. • Sanford Stadium (92,746) #4 LSU (4-0, 2-0 SEC) Fourth-Ranked LSU Travels To Face 14th-Ranked Georgia In SEC Clash LSU, now up to No. 4 in the nation in all three major polls - USA Today Coaches, Associated Press, and Harris Interactive SEPTEMBER - will look to keep its record perfect on Saturday when the Tigers face 14th-ranked Georgia in Athens. Kickoff for the 5 at Washington (ESPN) W, 31-23 Tigers and the Bulldogs is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT from Sanford Stadium. The game will be televised on CBS. The Tigers, who have won five straight dating back to last year, go into the game with a 4-0 overall mark and 2-0 record in 12 * Vanderbilt (ESPNU) W, 23-9 league play following last week's 30-26 road win over Mississippi State. LSU is 4-0 for the third straight year, something 19 UL-Lafayette (ESPNU) W, 31-3 that has never been done at the school. Jones Punt Return and Goalline Stand Helps Tigers Past Mississippi State, 30-26 All Times Central Chad Jones returned a punt 93 yards for a touchdown to start the fourth quarter and a last-minute goalline stand by the LSU defense helped the Tigers hold off Mississippi State, 30-26, in Starkville. Patrick Peterson opened the scoring for the Tigers, returning an interception 37 yards on State's first offensive play to give LSU a 6-0 lead. Mississippi State #18/14 Georgia (3-1, 2-0 SEC) responded on its next possession to take a 7-6 lead. The Tigers struck back, going 66-yards on seven plays, capped with a Brandon LaFell 4-yard TD reception from Jordan Jefferson, putting LSU up 13-6. After an errant snap on a punt SEPTEMBER gave Mississippi State the ball at the LSU 1-yard line, the Bulldogs needed just one play to regain the lead at 14-13 on 5 at #9 Oklahoma State (ABC) L, 10-24 a 1-yard run by Anthony Dixon. Teams POY, Beck Coach of the Year PITTSBURG, Kan. —Harlon Hill Trophy winning running back Jonas Randolph of Mars Hill and consensus All-America linebacker Nate Dreiling of National Champion Pittsburg State headline a talented 2011 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All- America Team. Randolph, who captured the Harlon Hill Trophy as the Division II National Player of the Year honors, garnered Don Hansen Offensive Player of the Year accolades. A senior from Daleville, Ala., Randolph rushed the ball 366 times for 2,170 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season, leading Division II with a 197.3 yard per game average. He guided the Lions to an 8-3 record and an NCAA-II playoff appearance. Dreiling, who helped lead the Gorillas to the school’s first national championship in 20 years, received Don Hansen National Defensive Player of the Year honors. A sophomore from Hutchinson, Kan., Dreiling made 139 tackles, including 17.0 TFLs, with seven interceptions, six pass breakups and two forced fumbles while helping Pitt State capture the NCAA- II National Championship. He made 46 tackles (11.5 pg) with 7.0 TFLs and three interceptions in the post-season. Missouri Western place kicker Greg Zuerlein, who converted a nation-leading 23 of 24 field goals including all nine attempts from 50 yards and beyond, was selected the Don Hansen National Special Teams Player of the Year.

    2018 LION FOOTBALL Media Guide THE TRANSITION NORTH ALABAMA TRANSITIONS TO FCS VOTE TO MOVE TO DIVISION I (FCS) CAME IN 2016 • The University of North Alabama Board of Trustees voted on December 6, 2016, to accept an invitation from the ASUN Conference and begin the transition of UNA to an NCAA Division I institution in the Fall of 2018. Thirteen of North Alabama's athletic teams will compete in the ASUN. The UNA football program will compete in the Big South Conference, which formed a football alliance with the ASUN. THE TRANSITION BEGINS AS AN FCS INDEPENDENT • Beginning with the 2018 season, the Lions will be competing as a member of the Division I Football Champi- onship Subdivision (FCS) as an independent. LIONS JOIN THE BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE IN 2019 • North Alabama will be an FCS independent in 2018 before joining the Big South Conference as a member in 2019. The Lions will not be eligible to compete for the Big South football title until the 2022 season. LION FOOTBALL DATES BACK TO 1912 • The University of North Alabama fielded football teams from 1912 to 1928 but the sport was dropped follow- ing the 1928 season. FOOTBALL RETURNED TO FLORENCE IN 1949 For the next 21 years there were several efforts made to return football to the Florence campus by writing let- ters to the administration and gathering names on petitions. Those efforts finally proved successful on March 30, 1949, when President Dr. E.B. Norton held a student assembly to announce that football would return to campus that September.
