The collective term for a group of giraffes is ‘tower’ and it can be truly said that Petr’s giraffe is a towering achievement. We were delighted when internationally published Worcester artist, Petr Horacek, took on the design and painting of the RGS giraffe for the ‘Worcester Stands Tall’ trail, in support of St. Richard’s Hospice. To provide a starting point for his giraffe design, Petr and his wife Claire came to the school for two days to work with some of our young artists. Workshops were held for the pupils, where they created a wonderful range of giraffe designs using Petr’s favoured collographic printmaking techniques. With the pupils eager to see how their designs would be joined together to make a whole, Petr then became ‘artist- in-residence’ at RGS. Petr said, “I really enjoyed working on the final giraffe and was pleased to overcome the technical challenges working on a significant scale and with such an unusual shape. What really made the giraffe work was utilising the pupils’ designs which reminded me of how much fun we had doing the workshops. I realised that this was a really great opportunity for everyone to be involved and that everyone could be included. Being an artist is about having fun and working with enthusiasm and it’s essential never to be scared and to try new things.” There were a number of fundraising projects led by RGS teacher Mrs Joanna Marsh to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice and the giraffe project. Remaining funds for the project were kindly donated by the Alumni Association, the AOOEs, so that RGS could be a sponsor for ‘The Worcester Stands Tall’ project. • Cricket Memorabilia Society Postal Auction Closing at Noon 10
CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

  • TIM CURTIS Tim Made His Debut for Worcestershire Against Sri Lanka In
TIM CURTIS Tim made his debut for Worcestershire against Sri Lanka in 1979. This was his only appearance for that year. University studies at Durham and Cambridge limited his opportunities but after gaining a ‘blue’ at Cambridge in 1983 he became a regular in the County side. He opened the innings and scored runs on a regular basis. His consistency at the top of the order was eventually rewarded with 2 Tests against the touring West Indies in 1988. The following season he played in 3 Tests against the Australians. Unfortunately he could not reproduce his county form in any of the matches. It was during these two years that Tim played an important part in Worcestershire winning the County Championship. He averaged over 40 in both seasons and played his part in many match-winning partnerships. During his career he had many high scoring partnerships, particularly with Graeme Hick, e.g. 264 v Somerset; 193 v Leicester; 258 v Middlesex and 232 v Surrey. In 1991 he took over the captaincy from Phil Neale. During his reign the Refuge Cup was won at Old Trafford and the Nat West Trophy at Lords in 1994. By scoring 248 v Somerset at Worcester he achieved the highest ever score by a Worcestershire captain. The press often criticised his one day batting but his partnerships with Ian Botham and Tom Moody were responsible for some fine starts. At the end of his career he had shared 33 century partnerships in the Sunday League – a figure only equalled by Graham Gooch. In total he scored over 20000 First Class runs at an average of over 40; scoring 43 hundreds and 103 fifties.

He went on to confirm that he, as Chairman of the Board, would take the chair for the main body of business to be conducted and that he or the Vice Chairman would be proposing on behalf of the Board, all the resolutions appearing on the order paper. Therefore these resolutions do not need to be formally seconded, merely a straight vote (for or against) from the members of the club. The Chairman then asked members to stand in silent tribute to all the members and friends of the Club who had passed away during the last year and in particular those that had been brought to the attention of the club; Roy Booth, Tracey D'Oliveira, Derek Russell, Rodney Cass, Terry Birt and Ron Fletcher.
