“No child of God should die alone, unloved and uncared’’- Mother Theresa Sanjivani Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre was found in 1993.The founder of the organization is Rev.Dr.AntonyMannarkulam. Sanjivani is the first community based rehabilitation centre for the mentally ill in Kerala. Fr. Antony met Mother Theresa and she gave the idea and motivation of estab- lishing the organization at Nedumkunnam in 1992. The space area was do- nated by Forane parish of Nedumkunnam.Sanjivaniis a charitable Trust reg- istered in (Reg. No. K-21/94).The Archbishop of is the patron and president. Sanjivani is a true sign of compassionate love of God. It accommodates 180 residents at a time; this is a home away from home. It offers training program for mental health professionals. Now 70 members are residing in Sanjivani.

Vision: Vision of Sanjivani is ‘Care and share’. Objectives: The Objectives of the Sanjivani Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre: • To rehabilitate the mentally ill. • To provide lifelong staying facility for abandoned people • To provide training for mental health professionals. • To provide rehabilitative service to the unprivileged section of the society.

Sanjivani Walk in Clinic: Sanjivani walk in clinic provides the following services all the five working days. • Screening of the mentally challenged • Psychiatric consultation • Various types of psychotherapies

June 2017 78 Ipe Varughese Sanjivani Training Institute: Conduct training programmes for field workers, community workers, social workers, religious and clergy. Collab- orate with government and non-governmental agencies in awareness pro- grammes on psychosocial rehabilitation. Sanjivani Community Programme: Community based awareness cam- pus in villages and parishes for the general public. Extension programmes for special groups like delinquents-homes & pris- ons. Help in the policy making through seminars, discussions and workshops. Research & Clinical Internship: Collaborate with professionals in re- search onmental health and provide facilities for internship for social work- ers and health professionals. They provide internship facilities for psychiatric nurses also. Sanjivani Publications: Sanjivani publishes books on counseling and psy- chotherapy and undertake the publication of any book on psycho-spiritual phenomena. They also publish Books and pamphlets on chemical dependen- cy, AIDS, mental health and rehabilitation. Sanjivani Rehabilitation Centre: A community based rehabilitation cen- tre in a therapeutic milieu for 75 residents, both male and female. Main ac- tivities are: • Self integration through various insight giving psychotherapies. • Yoga therapy for self discipline. • Group dynamics and group works. • Occupational therapies. • Art and recreational therapies. • Spiritual therapy • Rehabilitation of the recovering sick • Taking care of the chronically sick Mother Teresa Home: A home for the terminally ill and homeless people where the poor and sick elderly people experience the caring love of our dedicated volunteers and find a home away from home. Sanjivani Model/ Triangle Model of Rehabilitation Therapy: Sanjivani follows a special model of treatment which is developed by

It is based on Locus, Focus and modus. It includes a holistic approach by giving humanitarian and professional assistance.

Locus

Focus Modus Locus: It includes the family situation of the client. Loc Here the life situation of the client is assessed and treatment is provided byLocus the help of the family Locus members. Locus Locus Focus: In this phase of treatment, attention is given on the reunion of the lost family relationship and tries to improve the self confidence of the patients. By this process of rehabilitation the patient is lead to a homely atmosphere. Here we providing a family atmosphere with love an care. Modus: This phase specify the mode of treatment given. It inclues: Chemotherapy: with drugs Psychotherapies: Help the formation of good personality or can avoid the fears and social stigma against the mental illness. Occupational Therapies: various occupational thearpy units like rabbit farm, vegitable garden, cover making and soap making. Spiritual Therapy: Through prayers patient can become more hopeful to the life. Spiritual therapy helps to make a peaceful life.
