These are the statues of seven elephants of two feet height and one with one foot. These statues are made with wood and covered with gold plate. Total fifty eight kilo gold is being used to create these eight idols. It is believed that the King of Travancore has made these idols to present at the Vaikom Temple and it was being carried out to Vaikom from Thiruvananthapuram by water. When it reached near Ettumanoor, the boat got struck on the sand bund in the river and did not move further even after a lot of hard work by a group of people. Then an astrologer came there and told them that, Ettumanoorappan, the presiding deity of Ettumanoor temple got attracted with these statues and will not part with it. Hearing this King donated those statues to Ettumanoor. The Aarattu Festival is conducted to celebrate the divine presence of the deity. About 2000 Local RELEVANCE- NO. All above context contributes to the prosperous of the country. Every context varies from each one based on the geographical area, resources, livelihood pattern, socio cultural status along with its community. But there is some destination site which is having the characteristic of more than one context. This research has also attempted to understand the village with characteristics of rural and tribal in Kalkundhal village of Kattapana block in Idukki district, Kerala. This study used primary and secondary data with random sample survey with a sample size of 120 household. This research reveals the socio-economic status, livelihood pattern, major development issue, changes oner the period and ethnic groups the best practices among the community people of Kalkundhal village. This research also brings out the isolation part of tribal and rural society from the outside world by the mode of transport, communication, education and technology where it also being behind factor of inequality in the Indian society. And the main part of this research covers the poverty status of the hilly region. I. INTRODUCTION This research has mainly focused on analyzing characteristics of rural and tribal context.
