In this presentation, your ghost guide will be telling their haunted tales just as they experienced them so many years ago. Travel into their Haunted Home where you may experience the same frightening encounters. This tour may be our scariest tour ever and may not be suited for young children or the faint at heart. This tour joined our lineup in 2010 and became one of the most popular evening events in Gettysburg. Don’t wait until the last minute to purchase tickets or you may be left out in the dark. HAUNTED ORPHANAGE TOUR (Since 2004) Zak Bagins of Ghost Adventures listed this building on his top 10 freakiest places in the USA. In 2011 this tour was expanded to include time on the first floor in the area that was the dining room. You still journey down the original wooden stairs to the dingy, dark dungeon where a cruel headmistress chained the children to the stone walls. On this tour you will hear stories of the other cruel treatments she inflicted on her charges, treatments that lead to the spirits lingering throughout the building today. As part of your adventure, your guide will take you on a short walk around the neighborhood. You will be treated to haunted tales of the Dobbin House on Steinwehr Avenue, the National Cemetery and The Hall of Presidents. The haunts behind the Orphanage are of special interest and will make you wonder if you wish to pass through the doors into the realm of the supernatural. Enter if you dare! THE JENNIE WADE TOUR (Since 2003) Included in this tour is a journey around the South side of town that traverses the area of East Cemetery Hill. You will stop for curious tales of ghostly soldiers, heartbroken women, Poltergeists and other assorted ghostly encounters. You will enter through the same door where a bullet passed on July 3, 1863 and killed Jennie Wade, making her the only civilian to die during the battle of Gettysburg. The ghostly tales of this house have been recorded in numerous books and holds the proud distinction of being on the Travel Channels list of haunted houses. In October 2008, it was featured on television’s Most Haunted and was singled out by the lead investigator as the MOST HAUNTED IN GETTYSBURG. You may also have seen the Jennie Wade House in segments on Ghost Adventures, Ghost Lab, Haunted History and recently GHOST HUNTERS. The stories alone are chilling enough but now through modern technology provided by Ghost Researchers, we have evidence that cold spots roam the stairs and rooms, chains swing freely for no reason, rocking chairs move when vacant. This challenge could take you INSIDE the Haunted Orphanage on Friday Nights or The Jennie Wade House on Saturday Nights. This tour is considered to be three adventures in one. At some point during your 90 minute journey you will encounter a “GHOST GUIDE”, a “GHOST INVESTIGATOR” and “STORYTELLER”. The three will combine to bring the story of these haunted buildings to life. By the mid 1870’s things had taken a very dark turn. Rumors of the cruel abuse of the children had spread through the town. Eventually enough evidence had been collected; Rosa was put on trial and found GUILTY! But she didn’t go easy. Some believe she didn’t go at all and continues to haunt the Orphanage. Join us as a phantom witness presents the evidence against her in the very building where the story took place. Listen to Rosa as she continues to argue her case. Be there when Rosas ghost faces her final judgment. You the jury will decide her fate. Will she go to the light or be sent into eternal darkness. THIS ONE YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS! As a ghost she continues to piece together the events of that day. Now you, as a visitor to the home, have been drawn into the story. She must not only save the rest of her family but is concerned for your safety as well. The spirit of a union soldier arrives on the scene with a plan to save all of you. But can the escape route be opened before more horror falls on the building? If he succeeds in getting you through to safety in the cellar your experience is not yet complete. The space below the house is haunted by the ghost of James Wade, Jennies’ father. Having lost his mind in life he continues in death to attack the integrity of anyone who crosses his path. As he sums up the aftermath of his daughter’s death you best be prepared for anything! Will he be the last of your encounters? For the answer come and experience this unique journey through the original structure where Jennie Wade died. GHOST BUS TOUR (Since 2003—updated in 2014) To add to this adventure and give our guests what they want in a tour we are adding an unexpected twist and scare to the traditional “BUS TOUR”. On this 1 hour 45 minute journey you will still depart the bus at the Sachs Bridge and starting this year at The Gettysburg College for tales of the unexplained. Lawrence set out across America in a Flying Cloud coupe to begin his new life at the University of California, Berkeley. Eighty-one years later, a writer and a photographer took a road trip to visit the legacy of this accelerator-physics pioneer: American Big Science. 27 Every good cross-country road trip needs a theme. Sure, you can drive across the United States in three days flat, heading in a straight line on impersonal interstates and stopping at the occasional Waffle House for sustenance. But that doesn’t do justice to the great American tradition of the road trip, heading from sea to shining sea with the windows down and the radio on. From On the Road to Easy Rider, we’ve learned that the destination isn’t the point—it’s how you get there that counts. So when my boyfriend Nick Russell and I decided to drive from New York City to Los Angeles last summer, we weighed various options for our theme: The always-classic National Parks? The quirkier tour of Elvis museums? Major cities? Small towns? Desert, mountains, prairie? Uninspired, we threw out ideas for stops along the way. Marfa, Texas— good art, family friends, and UFO lights in the desert. Pueblo, Colorado—the Rocky Mountains, a friend’s parents, and Casa Bonita, a cross between a Mexican restaurant and Disneyland. Petersburg, Kentucky—the Creation Museum, devoted to disproving evolution, which we ultimately decided was not for us.

Ghosts have fascinated us for centuries. From ghost tours to paranormal investigations, people are always looking for a way to encounter the supernatural. Even in early texts, excerpts about apparitions and spirits can be found. But throughout all of the reports of ghosts, one thing remains the same: for most adults there is an inability to see them with the naked eye (except perhaps for mediums and children). The first ghost story account written in the first century A.D. by the Roman author Pliny the Younger, who wrote his story after experiencing a horrifying haunting wherein an elderly man with a long beard, with chains hanging from his arms and ankles, haunted his home. Hundreds of years later, in 856 A.D., a report in Germany detailed the first known poltergeist activity that took place in a farmhouse where a family experienced torment at the hand of an unseen force that threw rocks, started fires and caused endless chaos - is the earliest account of a violent spirit. While ghost stories are often explicitly meant to be scary, they have been written to serve all sorts of purposes, from comedy to morality tales. Ghosts often appear in the narrative as sentinels or prophets of things to come. Belief in ghosts is found in all cultures around the world, thus ghost stories may be passed down orally or in written form.
