The Betty Garrett Musical Theatre Scholarship is named in honor of actress-singer-dancer-teacher Betty Garrett, who passed away last February 12 at the age of 91. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003.

In addition to her work as a performer, Ms. Garrett - inspired by her own youthful work with such teachers as , , , and Margaret Webster - was a dedicated teacher devoted to nurturing young talent. The Betty Garrett Musical Theatre Scholarship at Columbia College Chicago honors her generous spirit and her devotion to teaching as well as her achievement in musical theatre.

Guest artist Beckie Menzie (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=693238398) is a three-time winner of Chicago's After Dark award for "Outstanding Cabaret Artist." She has appeared at some of the nation's top stages including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Town Hall in New York and Chicago's Auditorium Theatre and Park West; she has also been a featured artist at numerous Mabel Mercer Foundation Cabaret Conventions, as well as the ASCAP & Chicago Humanities Festival concerts. In addition to performing, Beckie teaches for Northwestern University's Musical Theatre Department and sits on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Cabaret Professionals.
