Reproduction of the original front cover. Cool grooving and swinging combination of Gospel/Blues vocals and Westcoast Combo Jazz. Newly interpreted classics include (They Call It) Stormy Monday, See See Rider, I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town and In The Evening When The Sun Goes Down. We've added three previously unreleased recordings - Blues Is A Woman, A Little Les Of Lou's Blues, and an alternative version of Stormy Monday - to the original LP! Carefully remastered by Tom Meyer at Master & Servant and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal media. When Lou Rawls (1933 - 2006) entered the recording studio in Los Angeles in February 1962 to record his first album, 'Stormy Monday' in collaboration with Les McCann's combo, hardly anyone could have guessed what success and popularity the black singer, songwriter, producer and film actor would achieve in the coming decades. In 1966 he made his breakthrough with Love Is A Hurtin' Thing and reached the top of the R&B charts. Four years earlier the situation was different. Rawls had grown up in the south side of Chicago, got in touch with gospel music early, met Curtis Mayfield and replaced Sam Cooke in the Highway QC's a few years later.

Catya's Trio Has Been Playing Clubs, Restaurants, and Blues Festivals Since the Spring of 2005
Catya's Trio has been playing clubs, restaurants, and Blues Festivals since the Spring of 2005. Although they performs a variety of musical styles, they emphasize original and traditional Blues and Swing. Catya's Trio features: Singer-Songwriter, Guitarist, Catya, The Chippewa Valley Blues Society presents Tenor Saxophonist, Composer, Sue Orfield, & Randy Sinz on Basses. Catya wrote her first song at the age of 8. She began performing professionally in 1978 and, before moving to Wisconsin, worked in clubs all over New England, the Southwest, and Northern California. She's played gigs with Darrell Nulisch, Jon Ross, Brian Templeton & Kid Bangham, Chuck " The Cat" Morris, The Paramounts, The Short Brothers, and various other acts in New England. In the Greater Upper Mississippi Valley area she's gigged with Howard Luedtke, David Jones & the Jones Tones, Tim Caswell, Poppy Moeller, and Joe T. Cook & the Longshots, R4, The Sue Orfield Band, The Lucy Creek Blues Band and, of course, Catya’s Trio. Sue Orfield has been playing the Tenor Saxophone for close to 30 years. She freelances locally in the Blues, Jazz, Rock, Country, and Original music scenes (In other words, she can pretty much play anything). She was voted "Best Horn" by the Washington Blues Society in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Sue is currently playing with Catya's Trio, Code Blue, Rada Dada, The Lucy Creek Blues Band, The Catfish Walker Band, R4, The Flarecatz, Willie Walker and the Butanes, The Icons, Thick Shoe, and many more. She also fronts her own group called The Sue Orfield Band (SOB) which features her original material.

Neal) The progressive country music movement developed in Austin, Texas, during the early 1970s as a community of liberal young musicians and concertgoers with strong interests in Texan country music traditions and contemporary rock music converged on the city. Children of the Cold War and the post-World War II migration to the suburbs, these “cosmic cowboys” sought to get back in touch with their rural roots and to leave behind the socially conservative world their parents had created for them. As a hybrid of country music and rock, progressive country music both encapsulated the contradictions of the cosmic cowboys in song and helped to create a musical sanctuary in which these youths could articulate their difference from mainstream Texan culture. Examining the work of the movement’s singer-songwriters (Michael Murphey, Guy Clark, Gary P. Nunn), western swing revivalists (Asleep at the Wheel, Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys), and commercial country singers (Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings), this dissertation explores the proliferation of stock imagery, landscape painting, and Texan stereotypes in progressive country music and their role in the construction of Austin’s difference.
