Lowe's Senior CLASS Awards Criteria In addition to the core requirement that the candidate be a NCAA Division 1 senior, the finalists and eventual winner will be selected based on personal qualities that define a complete student athlete. These areas of excellence are defined under the categories of Classroom, Character, Community and Competition. Classroom: academic achievements and successfully progressing in regards to earning a degree Character: attributes that define the candidate's personal character, including leadership skills, work ethic and integrity Community: involvement in community and charity activities, utilizing the candidate's status as a college athlete to make an impact in worthwhile causes Competition: achievements within the athlete's respective sport and their role in the success of the team Lacrosse 2009 Athletes: Andy Tormey Brandon Corp Brendan Reilly Chris Taylor Danny Glading Doug Buckley Doug Rendall Drew Adams Garrett Pedley Grant Zimmerman Griffin Nevitt Jeff Rommel Jimmy Harrison Joel Dalgarno Joey Murray Jordan Burke Matt Abbott Max Motschwiller Max Seibald Michael Colleluori Michael Evans Mike Catalino Mike Timms Peter Christman Randall Cooper Ryan Hoff Sam Payton Scott Rosenshein Tim Balise Zack Greer Andy Tormey (United States Naval Academy) Classroom Andy will graduate in May with a degree in American Politics and Law and hopes to continue his academic studies in the field of law upon graduation. He was named to the Commandant's List in the Fall of 2008. Character Thought highly of by not only his classmates, but his peers at the Academy, Andy was elected by his teammates to serve as Navy's team captain in '09. He has served as the spokesperson for all of Navy's varsity captains this year. Over the summer, he saw and experienced first-hand the benefits of great leadership when he spent 25 days in the wilderness of Wyoming attending NOLS, otherwise known as the National Outdoor Leadership School. The program prides itself by taking people of all ages on remote wilderness expeditions, teaching technical outdoor skills, leadership, and environmental ethics in some of the world's wildest and most awe-inspiring classrooms. Here are a few statements from Andrew when he was elected captain ... "I'm so honored that my teammates have the respect and trust in me to serve as captain of the team. Being team captain is more than just a title. It's about bringing every member of the team together and creating the best chemistry, the best team we can have. I certainly didn't want to take it for granted that I would be elected captain, but I also didn't want to be unprepared. The NOLS experience was a tremendous opportunity for me personally and there are certainly different aspects of the program I'll be able to pass on to my teammates. I'm really anxious to get all of the senior members of the team involved, as I think that's more effective leadership than just one voice. Upon graduation, he will be an Ensign in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. Community Andy has spearheaded an initiative for the Navy lacrosse program to get involved with the Friends of Jaclyn program. He also volunteers his time to the Salvation Army during the holiday break, distributing food and toys to families less fortunate. Competition Named a Preseason Second-Team All-American by Face-Off Magazine, Andy is a fixture among Navy's defensive unit that has been ranked among the top three in the country in each of his three seasons, including 2006 when it paced the nation. Navy has been the top-ranked scoring defense in the Patriot League since joining the conference in 2004. Brandon Corp (Colgate University) Classroom Corp was named to the 2008 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Character A leader by example on the field, Corp is a 2009 team captain. Corp, who spends extra time at practice each day fine tuning his game led Colgate to an upset victory over Navy in the 2008 Patriot League Tournament. After trailing 3-0, Corp scored a career-high five goals and added an assist for six points to lead the Raiders to a thrilling 12-9 victory over the Midshipmen. Corp's five goals tied the Patriot League Tournament record for goals in a game. Community Sharing his talent in the classroom Corp spends one day a week volunteering with Pre-K students at the Hamilton Elementary School. Corp also works lacrosse camps/clinics during the summer and winter breaks. Competition Brandon Corp was voted the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. The reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, Corp also earned preseason all-Patriot League and preseason all-American recognition from Face Off Yearbook. He garnered third team all-American recognition last season after headlining the Colgate attack with a league-best 56 points off of 41 goals and 15 assists. Corp's 41 tallies last season ranks fifth all-time, while his overall 56 points is seventh in Colgate single-season history. He is a three-time all-Patriot League selection, earning first-team recognition each of the past two seasons. Corp has tallied at least one point in 33 consecutive games, dating back to the beginning of the 2007 season. He proved to be instrumental in the Raiders' run to the Patriot League Championship, registering a Patriot League Tournament record eight goals and 11 points in the two games, including five tallies in the semifinal upset of Navy. For his career he has 92 goals and 39 assists for 131 points. He currently ranks sixth all-time in career goals and is 10th career points. Brendan Reilly (Princeton University) Classroom Brenden owns a 3.45 grade-point average. He was a 2008 Academic All-Ivy League selection and was named a Woodrow Wilson School Scholar in the Nation's Service, which is the most prestigious undergraduate honor for the WWS (awarded to five juniors per year. The honor awards a post-graduate scholarship to the WWS Master's program following some government service. Character Upon completion of Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in the summer of 2009, Brenden will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the Corps after graduation. "Brendan Reilly has a Woodrow Wilson School scholarship, which requires two years of government service. He could have chosen to sit in an office somewhere safe and written some reports or something, but he chose instead to join the United States Marine Corps and go through Officer Candidate School. I can't think of anything that best describes his character than that. He's an exceptional young man who has done everything that's been asked of him for four years without ever once being a problem in any way. You don't get too many kids in your program like Brendan Reilly." Coach Bill Tierney Community Brenden has participated in the Trenton Bridge Community Service program (worked with kids from Trenton on programs in both Trenton and at Princeton) and serves as a English as a Second Language tutor. Competition A Preseason All-America for 2009 according to Inside Lacrosse magazine, Brenden is a four-year starter. Chris Taylor (Georgetown University) Classroom A double major in English and Theology, Chris carries a cumulative grade-point average of 3.731. He is slated to graduate magna cum laude and was a member of the ECAC All-Academic Team in 2008. Character A two-time team captain, Chris will captain the team during his senior year in 2009. As a junior in 2008, he was voted by his teammates as the first junior captain at Georgetown lacrosse since 1999. Community Chris is a leader of the men\'s lacrosse-driven "Hoya Dreams" program, which pairs Georgetown student-athletes up with kids at the Georgetown University Hospital for visits to games and visits to the hospital. He is also a leading representative for the Georgetown Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has organized events for local elementary schools and senior citizens. Competition A terrific athlete with an outstanding work ethic and attitude, Chris is one of the best defensive midfielders in the country. A consummate team player and a great leader, he tied for fifth on the team in ground balls in 2008, picking up 25 in 13 games, while adding two goals. Danny Glading (Virginia) Classroom He was named to the All-ACC Academic men's lacrosse team and to the ACC Honor Roll last season ... he currently carries a 3.4 GPA in his major (economics) ... he studied in Spain last summer. Character Danny never met a stranger ... everyone who has ever met him has come away impressed ... he is considerate to all he comes in contact with ... it's not unusual for him to give away balls, sweat bands, etc to kids after games and he will always sign autographs ... he is also very accomodating to media representatives requesting to interview him ... he always has a smile and is a true gentleman on the field. Community Active in UVa athletics dept ACE (Athletes Committed to Education) program ... tutored 6th grade math at local middle school last year and works with 4th graders this year ... interacts with underprivileged children and helps them with more than academics ... received the Hoos Achieving Community Service Award in 2008 ... member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), a committee representing student athletes at UVa ... worked on and voted on legislation from the ACC and NCAA regarding recruiting regulations Competition 4-year starter for a team that has reached the final four twice in three years ..
