22 students from a group of 160 students from 9th Std at St Thomas Girls High School, were selected based on their interests, aspirations and desire to achieve. Following this, the Yi team developed a unique Formal launch of ShYishya project customized to the needs and aspirations of these 22 students. The selected students from the group were given exposure to various aspects of personality and skill development through workshops spread over the year. “The students were the guiding forces. The more they aspire, the more they take away from this project. We had initially planned one session every week. But the students have responded beautifully and we have even had 2-3 sessions a week seeing their enthusiasm”, held Mr Paresh Sangani, Chair- education, Yi Kochi chapter. Session on Oral Communication and Body Language After completion of the planned modules, these students would be awarded a certificate acknowledging their participation in the project. And Yi hopes to bring forth the latent talents, skills and aspirations in these youngsters and mould them into honest, smarter, responsible young leaders with a clearer vision of their life goals.

Yi Annual Report 2012-13 07 Yi Kochi chapter proudly presents, ShYishya, the flagship project under the education vertical in the chapter this year. Launched on 9 November, 2012, this year-long project involved mentoring and guiding students with passion, energy and potential to make a difference to the community at large.

Students from St. Thomas Girls High School with their products at Students @ BusYiness Yi Kochi chapter held an exhibition cum hands on training session for students from selected schools and colleges on 8 February, 2013 at the Oberon Mall, .

This program, Students @ BusYiness, is designed to develop entrepreneurial skills in students and expose them to various aspects of running a business. Students from various schools and colleges across the city put up their stalls at all the five floors of Oberon Mall. From stalls selling delicious savories to beautiful handmade craft Students from SNGCE running their business at Students @ BusYiness items, greeting cards, bangles, flower vases and numerous other products, this was a live show of students’ creativity at play.

The teams were evaluated on the basis of the innovati- veness of the business idea, the quality, sustainability, branding and marketing of the product/service and the sales they made at the end of the day.

The competition saw some excellent branding and Yi Kochi Members at Oberon Mall during the Students @ BusYiness programme marketing initiatives that proved to be a competition to even the full fledged business and sales professionals in the mall. “Running a business requires a different mindset and this is what we are trying to instill in these students. A study mission to Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services (CAFS), Nedumbaserry, a Flight Kitchen that meets the highest standards in freshness, hygiene and security was organized by Yi Kochi Chapter on 21 July, 2012. Operating out from facilities near Kochi, and Airports in South India, CAFS is a venture of the hotel chain CGH Earth. The visit to the outlet in Kochi was indeed an eye opener regarding the intricacies and detailed processes that goes behind the ready-to-eat food packets served on board flights we travel so often.

To add colour to the RevYive session, a visit to the CIAL Golf Course, the biggest golf course in the state at Nedumbaserry, was also organized. Mr Sabu Thomas, the Yi Kochi members in front of CAFS administrative officer at the CIAL Golf course gave a brief introduction on the game and this again enlightened the group on many of the unknown terms and aspects of the game.

The Better Bees- the women members of Yi Kochi chapter had a great time on 16 January, 2013 at Hotel Crowne Plaza where they all got together for dinner. The elegant women, all in very good mood and for good reasons turned up to have a fun filled evening. Virgin drinks with a simple game of alphabets were played initially to break the ice. Yummy appetizers followed as they got to know each other as most of them were meeting each other for the first time.

Reviving memories of school days, Yi Kochi members On a mission to revive cycling habits amongst members were back on their bicycles at Muhamma, near Chertala and with Dr Raj leading the team of cycling enthusiasts in on 22 July, 2012. Starting at 5:30am, the team of 12-13 Yi Yi Kochi, a second cycling expedition was also held on 13 members and their families cycled by green fields and October, 2012 from Hotel International to ferry to beautiful backwaters that Kerala is so very famous for. 42 Yi Annual Report 2012-13 Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation playing a proactive role in India's development process. Yi was formed in the year 2002 with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation. Yi has around 1200 direct members in 27 city chapters, 300 members through its corporate chapters, 6000 students through student nets and 8500 young and progressive farmers through the farmer nets.

Yi membership includes young progressive Indians between the age group of 25 & 40 and comprises entrepreneurs, professionals and achievers from different walks of life. "To become the Voice of Young Indians Globally" being the vision of Yi, it provides a platform for young Indians to participate in and contribute by becoming an integral part of the Indian growth story. Yi's work can be divided primarily into three groups; "Youth Leadership", "Youth Social Entrepreneurship” and “International Engagements”.

Under youth leadership, Yi works effectively for promoting leadership skills for its members through the learning programs and missions to companies of global excellence in India and abroad; the development and engagement of students through its 93 Student Net platforms that has 5578 students; and the Farmers Net platform that has enrolled more than 8500 young & progressive farmers providing them with real time agricultural inputs and know-how. Yi's regional and national summits on themes related to the times and the role of youth and its engagement with the governments at the state and national level gives an opportunity for the members to become effective leaders with a vision into the future. The “Next Practices” vertical of Yi engages the students and members to bring out, “out of the box” and innovative solutions to common problems for the region and the nation at large. Done under the “Blue Ocean Dialogue” brand, the ideas that have come out of these engaged workshops have been captured for further processing.

Under youth social entrepreneurship, Yi engages its members under the board categories of education, environment, healthcare, employability, arts (sports & culture) and rural initiatives contributing positively to its surrounding eco system and the nation. Through its initiatives like Akshara under Education, Yi has impacted more than 15000 students across 57 centers and has successfully managed campaigns like the 'SYightboard Project', providing blackboards to schools across different cities, reaching out to 1070 schools nationally and impacting approximately 2,53,000 children.

Yi has been instrumental in skilling & placing 1300 youth under the aegis of its Employability program. Under the Healthcare initiative, over 175000 children have been dewormed in addition to many other health awareness programs across the community in different cities. Within the sphere of Environment, Yi conducts Green I contest to encourage and motivate school children to bring out sustainable green campuses through ideas, campaigns for tree plantation, solid waste management projects, involving citizens and children in the process. Yi is also in the process of planting one million saplings across the country through its 'One Million Tree Project'.Yi strives to engage members and students in cultural activities like musical concerts, visiting to heritage monuments for learning, traditional dinner, celebrating the 100th year of the Indian National Anthem and initiatives that connect the youth with areas inclined towards Arts, Sports and Culture. Yi engages around 10000 people each year during the World Heritage Week.

Under the "International Engagement", Yi is one of the proud founders of the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance which is a collective of leading entrepreneurially-minded organizations representing the G20 countries who seek to promote youth entrepreneurship as a powerful driver of economic renewal, job creation, innovation and social and is one of the founders of theCommonwealth Asia Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs (CAAYE) which is a network of young entrepreneurs from the Commonwealth Asia region and the organizations that support them. Yi has organized learning missions to many countries around the world to understand and learn from the best practices and cultures of countries around the world. It has also worked with the Planning Commission of India in conducting consultation workshops across its chapters for accumulating a youth perspective to be included in the 12th Five Year Plan and with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to facilitate missions of visiting delegations of young entrepreneurs to India from around the world.

With nine years of glorious past and decades ahead that promise nothing short, Yi intends to become a larger movement of young people and promote the attitude of "We Can, We Will".
