CRANKSET - Rev. 01/ 04-2021 7 CAMPAGNOLO COMPONENTS - TECHNICAL MANUAL 4 - ASSEMBLY After installing the bottom bracket cups specific for your Ekar crankset in the bottom bracket shell (to understand the exact compatibility, refer to the “Bottom bracket cup” chapter of the technical manual): - Insert the right hand crank fully down in the bottom bracket shell (Fig.1). - Push the spring to make the two ends enter in the small holes (Fig.2). Fig.1 Fig.2 - Move the right hand crank to the side as if to extract it from the bottom bracket, to ensure that the spring was positioned correctly and is retaining the hand crank (Fig.3). - Insert the wave washer (Fig.4) in the space for the left bottom bracket cup bearing. • Insert the left hand crank in the bottom bracket shell. • Using the Campagnolo® UT-BB110 tool or a Fig.3 Fig.4 suitable 10 mm hexagonal insert with a length of at least 65 mm, engage the fastening screw (Fig. 5) in the semiaxle of the left-hand hand crank until it goes through the hole at the inner end of the semiaxle itself. Then engage the thread of the semiaxle of the right-hand hand crank. WARNING! Use the special screw (code FC- RE107). Using a different screw may cause malfunction or breakage, even sudden, 65 mm MIN. and result in accident, personal injury or death. Fig.5 CRANKSET - Rev. 01/ 04-2021 8 CAMPAGNOLO COMPONENTS - TECHNICAL MANUAL • Make sure that the hand cranks are correctly aligned (Fig.6). OK NO! Fig.6 • Use one hand to hold the left-hand hand crank in the correct position, tighten manually the fastening screw (Fig. 7) until it the semiaxles engage, then apply a torque wrench (to the 10 mm hexagonal insert) and tighten to a torque of 42 Nm - 60 Nm (372 in.lbs - 531 in.lbs) (Fig. 7). 42 - 60 Nm (372 - 531 in.lbs) Fig.7 DANGER! Never use fixed Allen wrenches in NO! place (Fig. 8) of a torque wrench because, in addition to not being able to set the correct tightening torque, they are often shorter than 65 mm, which may result in partial engagement on the screw head with the possibility of damaging the screw and generating cracks. Screw breakage during use may lead to malfunction or breakage, accidents, physical injuries or Fig.8 death. CRANKSET - Rev. 01/ 04-2021 9 CAMPAGNOLO COMPONENTS - TECHNICAL MANUAL 5 - CHAINRING REPLACEMENT The Ekar crankset is designed so that the chainring can be replaced without having to remove the crankset. To replace the chainring, which requires a minimum amount of mechanical skill and the correct tools, follow the procedure indicated below, or, alternatively, have your mechanic replace it. To always ensure maximum compatibility and efficiency, use only original Campagnolo components. - Place your bicycle on a stable support and put on gloves to protect your hands. - Position the rear derailleur on the smallest sprocket (Fig.1). Fig.1 - Push the rocker downwards to reduce the chain tension and bring it outwards, removing it from the chainring and hand crank (Fig.2). Fig.2 - Working from the inside of your bicycle, loosen the four chainring screws using a Torx 30 spanner (Fig.3). Fig.3 CRANKSET - Rev. 01/ 04-2021 10 CAMPAGNOLO COMPONENTS - TECHNICAL MANUAL - The screws can also be reached from the outer side of the bicycle, but be careful not to damage the surface of the crankset and make sure that the spanner direction of rotation is therefore opposite to the normal direction (Fig.4). Fig.4 - Turn the chainring to be able to remove it from the crankset, being careful not to scrape the crankset (Fig.5). Fig.5 - Position the new chainring on the crankset support, making the pin on the chainring align with the hand crank (Fig.6). Fig.6 CRANKSET - Rev. 01/ 04-2021 11 CAMPAGNOLO COMPONENTS - TECHNICAL MANUAL - Before refitting, the application of low-strength Loctite 222 to the screw threads is recommended (Fig.7). 2 3 - Follow a crosswise order to tighten the four screws (1-2-3-4) (Fig.8). 4 1 Fig.7 Fig.8 - Use a torque wrench to tighten the screws to 8 Nm (71 in.lbs) (Fig.9). 8 Nm (71 in.lbs) Fig.9 - Push the rocker downwards to reduce the chain tension and reposition the chain on the chainring (Fig.10). The correct chain length must be recalculated if the number of teeth on the new chainring is 6 teeth more or less than on the old one (from 38 to 44 teeth or vice ! versa). If the change in the number of teeth is less than 6, then the chain length does not need to be altered. Fig.10 CRANKSET - Rev. 01/ 04-2021 12 CAMPAGNOLO COMPONENTS - TECHNICAL MANUAL 6 - CRANKSET MAINTENANCE • Maintenance intervals are strictly approximate and may vary significantly in relation to the intensity and con- ditions of use (for example: competitions, rain, winter roads with salt, weight of the athlete, etc.). Schedule the appropriate maintenance with your mechanic. • Periodically check that the central screw and the chainring screws are tightened with the correct torque values: - central screw: 42 Nm - 60 Nm (372 in.lbs - 531 in.lbs) - chainring retaining screws: 8 Nm (71 in.lbs) - For bearing replacement, please contact a Campagnolo Service Centre. This delicate operation requires an extractor to remove them (and great care to avoid damaging the teeth of the central joint) and the tool (Cyclus Tools “720263” type) to fit the new bearings. • Clean and lubricate the bearings and semi axles and lubricate the bearing housings in the bottom bracket cups with specific synthetic grease for bearings (approximately every 4000 km).
