What is the history of the commission? Th e Commission for People with Disabili- ties (originally named the Commission for Disabled Citizens) was created in June 2007. Chairperson Ed Matone says, “We focus on developing services that will assist people with disabilities meet practical problems; adjust to the changing circumstances of a disability; help decrease the sense of isola- tion, loneliness and dependence; enrich experiences with educational and social programs; organize the interests of the disabled community to improve the quality of life; and provide information on housing, transportation and transitioning needs.”

What events does the commission host? In partnership with like-minded organi- zations, the commission hosts an annual Transition Summit, which typically high- lights a current trend aff ecting the disabled community. Th e commission also provides a monthly respite program on the fi rst Friday of the month throughout the academic year.
