After Congressman Paul Cook’s decision to retire, Obernolte, a State Assemblyman and business owner, entered the race to represent the 8th District and quickly consolidated support from all major Republican leaders. “We need representatives in Washington with integrity and conviction who will defend our values and put the American people first. Jay Obernolte is a strong conservative who will fight for what's right, and that's why I'm proud to endorse him for Congress,” stated Congressman Devin Nunes. Recently, Obernolte announced the endorsement of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy who is now joined by the state’s full Republican delegation in backing Obernolte’s campaign: Rep. Big Business And Conservative Groups Helped Bolster The Sedition Caucus’ Coffers During The Second Fundraising Quarter Of 2021 Executive Summary During the 2nd Quarter Of 2021, 25 major PACs tied to corporations, right wing Members of Congress and industry trade associations gave over $1.5 million to members of the Congressional Sedition Caucus, the 147 lawmakers who voted to object to certifying the 2020 presidential election. This includes: • $140,000 Given By The American Crystal Sugar Company PAC To Members Of The Caucus. • $120,000 Given By Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s Majority Committee PAC To Members Of The Caucus • $41,000 Given By The Space Exploration Technologies Corp. PAC – the PAC affiliated with Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. Also among the top PACs are Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and the National Association of Realtors. Duke Energy and Boeing are also on this list despite these entity’s public declarations in January aimed at their customers and shareholders that were pausing all donations for a period of time, including those to members that voted against certifying the election. The leaders, companies and trade groups associated with these PACs should have to answer for their support of lawmakers whose votes that fueled the violence and sedition we saw on January 6. Cook, who represents the 8th Congressional District, which includes most of San Bernardino County as well as Mono and Inyo counties, is considering a return to local politics, but has not yet made a decision, said John Sobel, Cook’s chief of staff. “He is a local government guy originally,” Sobel said. Cook, a retired Marine Corps colonel and Vietnam combat veteran, was elected to congress in 2012, after representing the area in the state Assembly for six years. He served on the Yucca Valley Town Council from 1998 to 2006. The 1st District lies within the footprint of the 8th Congressional District. Both include the High Desert cities of Victorville, Hesperia, Adelanto and Needles as well as Apply Valley.
