Some of you already have a clear vision of where to go, musically. This might be one genre, or more than one, as described in this weeks’ ‘What kind of DJ are you?’ article. But for many starting DJ’s goes, that you start with a wide variety of music, to be able to spin at various locations. Usually, DJ’s define their style by having played a variety of genres on very different types of locations.

We think it’s good to have some good tracks in various energy levels of various genres. Here are some tracks that are wise to include in your collection when starting as a DJ who can handle a variety of spinning occasions. Maybe, they also widen your taste and view!

Classics versus new music For most DJ’s it is important to stay up-to-date with the latest music. At any gig other than a ’classics’-party, it’s nightmare to get a request for a song which you don’t know yet. The DJ is supposed to be most up with the newest music of everyone in the club.

BUT, for EVERY DJ goes, that he/ she should have ALL the most relevant tracks in the genre he/she plays. And many times, these are tracks that are ’classics’ in the genre!

PLUS, ’classics’ unite your dancefloor. Songs that bring up a widely shared sentiment with your audience, brings a ’we are family’ vibe to your floor that you can’t do without on a good club night! SO, don’t forget to download the ’essentials’ of the genre(s) you play, and throw them in when you need them most!
