At Ash Cave, they worked together on various team-building activities. A couple of the activities included a trust walk and a scavenger hunt. They also hiked to Ash Cave and saw the sandstone formations. At the cave, they worked on activities to get to know team members better. The officers also worked on their FFA program of activities for the 2008-2009 school- year, discussed plans for summer activities and began making plans to get an FFA alumni program started at Southeastern. The officer team also hiked a trail at Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve. The weather was great and all of the officers had a wonderful time and accomplished a lot of planning for next school year. During their stay they had the chance to try new sports such as archery, motor boating, kayaking, rock climbing and water polo as well as make new friends among the over 250 other FFA members from around the state. On top of all the fun and games, the members also developed leadership skills by organizing camp chapter meetings and activities such as flag ceremonies and by taking part in workshops led by past Ohio Members of the Zane Trace FFA Chapter: Trey Vollmar, Zach Wolfe, Will Orr, DJ Jordan, Jeff Allen, Emily Patrick and Cortney Ison. FFA officers. The students also learned important information about citizenship and service while at camp. One evening, the entire camp took part in a “third world banquet” in which the dining hall was divided into first, second and third world tables by percentages and students and advisors alike learned what life would be like for people living in the “world” they were placed in. Those seated at the first world tables enjoyed a dinner of spaghetti, bread, salad, dessert and punch. Those at the second world tables dined on beans, rice and water while those at third world tables had only rice and water. This activity and the discussion that followed encouraged students to think about the issue of hunger both in the United States and around the world. It also lead to what role their local FFA chapters could serve in helping relieve this problem. Another service project the members took part in while at camp was the Children’s Hospital fundraiser. A “pie-in-the-eye” activity in which members donated money for the chance to throw a cream pie in the face of their advisor. The event raised over $500 while an auction of FFA items brought in another $3500 from chapter donations. Overall, the members who attended camp came home with a greater appreciation for providing service to their community and made many great memories and friendships! D .J. Jordan donated money to Children’s Hospital while at FFA Camp Muskingum for the chance to throw a cream pie in the face of his advisor, Jennifer Moore, during the FFA “Pie-In-The-Eye” event. The students began their retreat by meeting at the Zane Trace agriculture classroom to evaluate and create plans for chapter activities, set goals for the next year and learn the duties of their officer positions. Two alumni officers, Kendra Dalton and Lindsey Cook assisted with the training of the new treasurer and secretary. Afterwards, the officers traveled to Cleveland where they enjoyed pizza and watched the Indians take on the Reds at Progressive Field. The next day the group practiced team building and communication skills by taking a canoeing trip down the Mohican River near Loudonville. It was discovered that some members of the officer team had better canoeing skills than others! During the trip all of the new officers enjoyed getting to know each other better and had fun planning another great year of activities for the Zane Trace FFA Chapter.
