Waters) ABSTRACT Within the preservation community, little is done to preserve the interiors of historic buildings. While many individuals are concerned with preserving our historic resources, they fail to look beyond the obvious—the exteriors of buildings. If efforts are not made to preserve interiors as well as exteriors, then many important resources will be lost. This thesis serves as a catalog of how to recreate and preserve an historic dining room of the early twentieth century in the Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco styles. ITALFOODS Truffle guide 2016 THE FOUR ITALIAN TRUFFLES WHITE TRUFFLES (Tuber Magnatum Pico) The white truffle is the most rare and precious of all truffles. It is picked only between the months of September and December in the town of Alba in the Piemonte region. The smooth, yellow surface of the truffle hides an interior that varies from brown to pale hazelnut with thin, light veins. Its unmistakable aroma is extremely intense, yet delicate. The key to its use is to use it raw. The classic combination would be egg paparadelle tossed with butter, the best grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, and then at the end the White Truffle thinly shaved on top. Preferably at tableside for dramatic effect. BLACK WINTER TRUFFLES (Tuber Melanosporum Vitt) This “black diamond” can be found as far as 20 inches under the ground, near oak trees, hornbeams, and hazelnut trees. It is picked in the Umbrian region of Italy between December and March. Its surface is black and wrinkled, with minute warts and its pulp is a purplish black with numerous, thin veins. Best tossed with warm olive oil and seasoning to taste. BIANCHETTO TRUFFLES (Tuber Albidum Pico) The season for picking the Bianchetto truffles, which is the smallest of the truffles, is between the months of January and April. They are whitish in color, while the pulp is a pale hazelnut with white veins. Their taste is sharp, but added to butter or olive oil, they tend to taste very similar to the precious white truffles. BLACK SUMMER TRUFFLES (Tuber Aestivum Vitt) The easy availability of these truffles makes them the most widely used. -

Walkthrough 2018 Version: GoG 1.0b_hotfix1 Party creation and Game Mechanics The party may contain up to six characters. I played with four, and don’t see the need for any more than that. Fewer characters get more XPs for each fight, and learn skills quicker. My party had no problems during the game. (I also had some dummy characters, used for storing excess items which I couldn’t or didn’t want to sell or drop. These were moved from town to town as needed.) The way the game is constructed it’s an advantage, actually a necessity, to change classes frequently. Most traits are taught by the different guilds, and some traits only taught to high-guild-level members, hence ideally all characters should be member of all guilds and do all quests to advance as far as possible. Note that even though a skill once learned can be advanced irrespectively of current class, this does not apply to magic skills. If you change to a class that cannot learn a spell book, spells from that book will be very costly to learn, as you need twice the normal skill level to learn spells. (E.g. a Paladin former priest will need a skill level of eight to learn level four Vine spells). An exception is the Warlock class which can learn any spells from known spell books at actual cost. The general advice here is to learn all the spells you need from one class, then change class, as acquiring new skills and spells at level up takes much longer once past about level 13 or 14 or thereabouts. -

Nancy Drew: Location, Location, Location by Pam Horack Page 15 Nancy’s World (to me) In real estate, the mantra is “Location, Location, Location”. As in a story, the right setting can be an effective plot device and can be used to evoke specific feelings. The Nancy Drew books often used a location to create the backdrop for the mysterious and adventurous. As a child, I was able to use my grandparents’ home as a true reference for many of the Nancy Drew settings, thus bringing the stories to life and turning me into Nancy Drew Green’s Folly, located in Halifax County, Virginia, was home to my maternal grandparents. As my mother was raised there, our family visited frequently. The estate has served many functions through the years: county courthouse, a racetrack, a farm, and currently an 18-hole golf course, which was originally developed by my grandfather, John G. Patterson, Jr. As a child with a vivid imagination, my senses were aroused by mysterious features of the old home. This was the world of my childhood and it made a natural location for many of my adventures with Nancy Drew. As many of the Nancy Drew stories involved large old estates, my mind easily substituted the real world for the fictitious. There seemed to be too many coincidences and similarities for it to be otherwise. I found my imagination using Green’s Folly as the backdrop for the following stories: 1. The Hidden Staircase 2. Work Now, I haven’t traipsed the forest floor for Oregon Truffles, bringing them, dirt clods clinging, to my nostrils, the streaming sunspears piercing the moss-encrusted Douglas fir canopy above, but I have met the Oregon truffle with a beginner’s mind and have discovered in the kitchen an ally of joyful power and subtlety, an ingredient full of surprising contortionistic capabilities that challenges me to leave precon- ceptions behind and rediscover myself in a creative exploration of the senses. Someone once said that people who don’t like truffles don’t like sex. Oregon truffles are a world-class, gourmet ingredient. In 1983, “the father of American gastronomy,” Portland-born James Beard, declared their culinary values to be at least as good as their European cousins, the French Black and the Italian White. But they are (thankfully) quite different from those cousins. Me and Truffles Man, there is very little in this world comparable to the experi- ence of good food, mixed with good people, wine, and truffles. The innately pheromonal nature of the truffle and its effect on some mammals encourages direct raw comparisons to sex and other blissful states of sensual intensity sought after and cel- ebrated by dedicated epicureans around the world. Over the years as a chef, my experience with quality fresh truffles has necessarily been limited to relatively few occasions underwritten by the curiosity and decadence of those in whose employ I was fortunate enough to reside. -

The passing bells rung, beckoning over the small town. It was in a wreck, the engines of busses groaned, solitude was spreading rapidly around the park. Only a few people would go on holiday there- one of those being Anna. She was a young lady with dark brown locks stroking her pale white neck. Her hair was in plaits and she was sitting down in an uncomfortable dress her mother had sewn. The park bench was cold and its ebony black paint was peeling off slowly, softly, sadly. The ducks from the pond were long gone. Mostly shot for food since the whole town was running low on money and supplies. Tiredly, Anna ate her sandwich and watched pigeons fly by and land near to her bench. Anna had been staying in one of her father’s houses for the past week and she had loved it. Anna didn’t really get on with people so some peace and quiet was like paradise for her. Of course, coming from a rich family, Anna had lots of luxuries including: living in a mansion with many maids and servants, having one of the largest boats in England named after her, a five acre garden and thirteen dogs.
