Your experience begins even before you step aboard. The very look of this extraordinary ship announces her commitment to excellence in seakeeping.

You’ll discover the most intimate viewing platform of any ship at sea. And you’ll find a place to relax that puts you in the center of 360-degree panoramas.

Ocean Victory is designed to redefine Alaska — beyond everything you thought you knew. WHAT IS AN X-BOW HULL?

Ocean Victory’s distinction begins with her innovative X-BOW design.

Immediately recognizable in the ship’s profile, the award-winning bow places the most forward point of the ship under the water rather than above it. This allows the hull to cut through waves. With a soft entry into the sea, the typical up and down motion common to other vessels is largely eliminated. Noise and vibrations from even the roughest of seas will disappear.

Pronounced cross bow, this design was developed by the Norwegian ship-builder ULSTEIN® to split the energy of the waves as the ship enters them. This allows Ocean Victory to slice through even rough seas rather than rising on the waves and then dropping with significant force. The X-BOW distributes the force evenly across the water’s surface. While your comfort increases dramatically, this innovative design also uses far less fuel and saves energy. The design is perfect in inclement weather, so just imagine how smoothly you’ll sail through calm and normal seas. The absence of splash and spray not only keeps you comfortable, this X-BOW benefit also keeps you safe. You can navigate the outside decks easily, without fear of slipping on wet surfaces.

Because the patented X-BOW design allows more available space in the front of the ship, you’ll enjoy unprecedented 180-degree views in forward lounges and public spaces. The spacious forward area also allows the unique dropout observation decks – giving you unmatched over-water views in remote wilderness areas.

Safer. Quieter. More comfortable. More scenic. And more environmentally sound. Welcome to the Ocean Victory’s history- making X-BOW design.

VICTORYCRUISELINES.COM | 888-907-2636 13 OBSERVATION LOUNGE Wraparound windows at the very WELCOME front of the ship make the perfect place for relaxing. DAY 6: MISTY FJORDS NATIONAL MONUMENT The soaring granite cliffs that greet us this morning are 50 to 70 million years old. Yes, million. Ancient glaciers scrubbed deep troughs through this wilderness, leaving a scenic geological wonder. New Eddystone Rock is a remnant of long ago volcanic activity that left the iconic basalt pillar as a testament to the power of this place. Humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, bears, wolves, moose, and hundreds of species of sea and shorebirds await as we spend most of today exploring the shoreline with our team of marine biologists from Cal Poly.

PREPARE TO GET CLOSE – Water level exploration is on the agenda in this aptly named mosaic of cliffs, rock walls, and deep fjords – that averages more than 150 inches of rainfall annually.

DAY 7: WRANGELL & THE STIKINE RIVER Wrangell is the perfect spot for an optional jet boat excursion to explore the dramatic Stikine River – what the Tlingit people call “the Great River.” The picturesque town of Wrangell is the gateway to the river, perched at the very tip of rugged Wrangell Island. Exploration is the order of the day, and you choose your point of view – from any of Ocean Victory’s observation perspectives, or right at water level by kayak or Zodiac. This almost hidden shoreline is perfect for discovery. Watch for seals, deer, and tidepools ready to reveal their secret treasures.

WHAT’S IN A NAME – Baranof (sometimes called Baranov) Island is named in honor of Alexander Andreyevich Baranov, a Russian businessman who came to what was then called Russian-America to help stop British encroachment into the territory. He founded what is now Sitka in 1799.

DAY 9: PETERSBURG AND THE LECONTE GLACIER We’ll dock right beside Alaska’s largest home-based halibut fleet, who call this shallow, protected harbor home. These abundant waters and an endless supply of ice from nearby LeConte Glacier led Norwegian fisherman Peter Buschmann to build the region’s first cannery and invite his fishing countrymen to join him. Hence the town’s name and its strong Norwegian culture. Large cruise ships cannot come into Petersburg, so you’ll be among a privileged few to be in this charming, authentic Alaskan village.

Southbound voyages will spend two days here, with the opportunity to explore both fjords with equal curiosity and expertise. *Southbound itineraries will spend Days 10 & 11 here.

Our ship is uniquely equipped to stop here, in a secluded cove of the captain’s choice, without disturbing the serenity with mechanical sounds or interruptions. Stand on deck and experience the stillness. Hear the sounds of the waters and wilderness around you. Be fully aware of where you are, who you are, and how you are in this matchless environment.

DAY 11: KAKE & FREDERICK SOUND WHALE WATCHING* The towering totem pole, the largest ever carved from a single tree, stands sentinel over this ancient village on the tip of Kupreanof Island. The Kake tribe of the Tlingit people still observe a subsistent lifestyle here, the harshness of its demands belied by the warmth of their welcome. In adjacent Frederick Sound, we’ll explore by Zodiac, led by our team of naturalists. *Southbound Day 11

You’ll immediately recognize the distinctive Russian domes of the churches, and may assume this city has Russian origins. You’d be right, of course, it was formally founded by the Russian-American Company in 1799. But the heart of Sitka is much deeper. The downtown area of Sitka was settled by the Tlingit people more than 10,000 years ago. For even longer, it has been home to the wild creatures who make Alaska a place unlike any other. Listen to the chattering of eagles and drink in the scent of the eponymous Sitka spruce as you experience the joy of this place, once called the “Paris of the Pacific.” *Northbound voyages disembark after breakfast. Southbound voyages begin with an overnight in Sitka and embark at 5 p.m. for dinner at sea.

WILDLIFE RESTORATION – The Alaska Raptor Center rehabilitates injured eagles and other birds of prey, and releases them into the wild. Those who cannot be returned are sheltered here. Fortress of the Bear features a three-quarter-acre habitat for orphaned brown bear cubs, with a covered viewing area.

TAKE YOUR CHOICE – You have so many options to enhance your time here. Browse local galleries and bookshops, or explore the historic totem poles in Sitka National Historical Park. And be sure to make time for sea kayaking, sport fishing, whale watching, and wonderful hiking trails that surround the city.
