  • Records Relating to the 1939 – 1945 War
Records Relating to the 1939 – 1945 War This is a list of resources in the three branches of the Record Office which relate exclusively to the 1939-1945 War and which were created because of the War. However, virtually every type of organisation was affected in some way by the War so it could also be worthwhile looking at the minute books and correspondence files of local councils, churches, societies and organisations, and also school logbooks. The list is in three sections: Pages 1-10: references in all the archive collections except for the Suffolk Regiment archive. They are arranged by theme, moving broadly from the beginning of the War to its end. Pages 10-12: printed books in the Local Studies collections. Pages 12-21: references in the Suffolk Regiment archive (held in the Bury St Edmunds branch). These are mainly arranged by Battalion. • Archeology in Suffolk, 1964
ARCHEOLOGY IN SUFFOLK, 1964 By ELIZABETH OWLES, B.A. andNORMANSMEDLEY,M.A.,F.S.A., F.M.A. Although the value of this index is naturally greatest to those engaged in research on the various periods or subjects recorded, it is hoped that the introduction at least may be read by members with general rather than specialist interests. To these, therefore, an appeal is made to report to the Ipswich Museum any finds of which they may become aware, giving as many details as possible, e.g., I. Locality, with a National Grid Reference if this is possible, or such details as may enable this to be worked out. Name and address of owner of the site. Nature of any material finds, with name of finder if this differs from that of the informant. Whether any excavation has been carried out. The urge to dig and to collect is strong, but should be held in check unless the digger is fully trained and competent to carry out the work according to modern standards, to draw and interpret accurate measured plans and sections, take photographs, and prepare a report suitable for publication in an appropriate journal. Excavation inevitably involves destruction of the evidence, and should not be lightly undertaken merely to satisfy curiosity or, worse still, for the purpose of 'collecting specimens'. Valuable work can be done by amateurs, not only in helping with excavations under supervision, but by carrying out field surveys. A report is badly needed on the present state of existing monuments, especially tumuli. Even those which are protected by scheduling are liable to gradual levelling by ploughing which is still, unfortunately, permitted.

Below is a picture of damage caused by the first storm, Ciara. The tree on Mill Road, Redlingfield, took out fibreoptic cables and along with a fault in Occold this meant the village went back to the pre-fast broadband days for a week. I would like to thank UK Power Networks who quickly came out to inspect and and assure us it was safe and the locals who then got chainsawing and cleared the road double quick. I would also like to thank the Openreach engineers who braved the following weekends’ storm Dennis going up in a cherry-picker in high winds to get Redlingfield back online. Mike Ager Damage caused by storm Ciara. REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR CLOCKS FORWARD AT THE END OF MARCH. ■ PLANNING: ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT REQUIRED: for plan for 7 poultry sheds on land to the south of B1117 Horham & 12 proposed poultry sheds on land to the east of Woodlane Road, Southolt.
