For some, the question is an attempt to see how others have translated an academic degree into a career. For others, the concern is regarding salary ranges achieved after graduation. To address this reoccurring need to know what types of positions and salaries graduates receive, TCCS developed a survey to gather information from recent graduates about their careers and employment status. Methodology Teachers College Career Services (TCCS) obtained a comprehensive list of 2012 graduates through the Teachers College Registrar. Using the contacts on this list, TCCS reached out to all 2,115 graduates and asked them to complete an online survey. Surveys were distributed during commencement ticket distribution for graduation and through monthly emails. TCCS staff also dedicated time to calling the graduates in order to collect data. In addition to general demographic information, graduates were asked to report their employment status. These options included: continuing current job; accepted job offer recently; pursuing additional degree; continuing job search; starting own business; and not job searching. If alumni had accepted a job offer recently and/or were continuing their current job they were prompted to provide information about their position title, employer, and salary range. Results A total of 1,443 graduates successfully completed the survey, 68% of the graduating class. A detailed breakdown of survey respondents by degree, department, academic program, and salary ranges are included in this comprehensive report. Implications and Recommendations The data collected from this survey has proven helpful not only to the TCCS staff, but also to other administrative offices across the college, including (but not limited to) Admission, Alumni Relations, Institutional Studies, Accreditation and Assessment, and Office of the Provost. TCCS staff also intends to use this information as part of their faculty outreach initiatives. Faculty can learn of graduates’ career endeavors after TC and will be able to garner a sense of their students’ career needs. Together, TCCS and faculty (or academic departments) can plan future programs, workshops, employer development, and other events to address students’ ever-changing career needs.
