Honoring #54 Jason Bitsko On Aug. 20, 2014 during a preseason practice, Kent State’s football team received tragic news of the unexpected overnight death of Jason Bitsko. The fourth-year junior was slated to be the team’s center after starting 12 games at right tackle in 2013. Bitsko had become a team leader, mentor and friend to many both on and off the field. In Bitsko’s honor, the number 54 is now worn by a select offensive lineman every season. In 2018 and 19, Nate Warnock was chosen by teammates and coaches to wear the jersey. In previous years, it was worn by Reno Reda, Stefano Millin and Nathan Puthoff. In 2014, 54 was displayed on one side of every player’s helmet throughout the year.
