Approved on behalf of the Commission: Joy Illington Chair Medical Services Commission 6 Medical Services Commission Notes to Financial Statement for the Year Ended March 31, 2005 Medical Services Commission Unaudited Statement of Operations for the Year ended March 31, 2005 Unaudited (Thousands of Dollars) 1. The Commission The Medical Services Commission was established July 1, 1968, by the Province of British Columbia under the Medical Service Act and Regulations. The legal authority for the Medical Services Commission to administer and operate the Medical Services Plan is the Medicare Protection Act and related regulations. Under Section 5(4) of the Medicare Protection Act, the Financial Administration Act applies to the Commission as though it were a division of the Ministry of Health. The Medical Services Plan premiums and expenditures are included within the Province's Consolidated Revenue Fund Statement of Revenue and Expenditure, which is audited annually by the Auditor General of British Columbia. 2. Significant Accounting Policies The Statement of Operations is prepared for the purpose of presenting the expenditures of the Plan and contributions by subscribers and the Province. The expenditures and contributions are recorded on an accrual basis. The total expenditures shown in this financial statement are the same as the expenditures shown in the Public Accounts of the Province for the Medical Services Plan. In previous years, certain administrative expenditures were charged to the Plan. In 2003, due to a change in the vote structure of the Ministry of Health, these expenditures are no longer charged to the Plan. Service costs include payments for eligible services provided by medical practitioners, health care practitioners and diagnostic facilities on a fee for service or alternative contractual basis, and other recruitment, retention, training and planning initiatives with respect to physicians. Payments for these services and initiatives are in accordance with the Medicare Protection Act and agreements with professional associations and health authorities. The expenditures also include estimates of unprocessed claims for services performed in 2004/05. 3. Contributions Premium revenue represents Medical Services Plan premiums paid by subscribers. This amount does not include bad debt expense arising from premiums that could not be collected or commissions paid for collection of overdue accounts. Premium assistance represents the value of subsidy provided by the Province on behalf of eligible persons. General contributions represent the residual amount required from the Province to fully meet the expenditures of the Plan. 4. Restatement of Prior Year's Results Premium revenue and general contribution amounts for 2003/04 were restated to be consistent with the accounting treatment used in 2004/05; this change has no impact on the total contributions. MEDICAL SERVICES COMMISSION, 2004/2005 7 UNAUDITED SCHEDULE OF PAYMENTS BY THE MEDICAL SERVICES PLAN TO SOCIETIES, HOSPITALS, HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS, PRACTITIONERS, AND CLINICS FOR INSURED SERVICES. This schedule of payments is published in compliance with the Financial Information Act and B.C. Regulation 371/93 and lists the gross payments made for the cost of insured services paid to each individual account of at least $25,000 during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005. All other accounts are shown as a consolidated total. Payments are reported under the practitioner who performed the services, except when the practitioner is associated with a hospital, laboratory, or health centre. Payments made on behalf of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia and the Workers’ Compensation Board are not included in the payment amount. Persons reading these data should understand that they provide only a record of gross payments. Since practitioners must pay the expenses of their practice out of this gross amount, no calculation of a practitioner’s net income can be made from such figures. The information provided is listed alphabetically by person, group, clinic, or hospital, and reflects the total amounts paid to a particular account. No conclusions can be drawn from these figures about the relative net income of any practitioner since overhead varies greatly from practitioner to practitioner, and since in some instances the recorded figure is a payment for the services of a number of practitioners. The Chair and all staff of the Commission and the Medical Services Plan are public servants. The events can be indoor or outdoor, anything from a musical performance, an organised walk, vintage rally, charity event, anything at all, and please include a photograph or two if you can. Minerals extracted: Lead, zinc, silver, copper, cadmium, and barite. With some small exceptions, the ore was not good enough for profit without a concentrator.

    THE ARCHDEACONS’ FORUM for the Church of England and the Church in Wales Archdeacons’ News Issue no. 47 February 2020 from Cameron Watt Archdeacons’ National Development Officer Welcome to the first issue of the Archdeacons’ News of 2020. Over the past few months I have had the enormous privilege of getting to know many of the Archdeacons across England and Wales since starting this role. When I first spoke to Norman Boakes about this role, he waxed lyrical about both the work, but more importantly about the wonderful cohort of people who are called to Archidiaconal ministry. I must pay tribute to Norman, as my predecessor in this role. He built up the role and tirelessly championed Archdeacons across the Church of England and the Church in Wales. As this role develops I am fabulously supported by Husna Louise in Church House, Bishop Chris Goldsmith as the new Director of Ministry, and the Archdeacons’ Forum Executive which is very well led by Archdeacon Stephen Taylor. Over the coming years, I hope to be able to develop the support which is on offer to Archdeacons, and also to help to ensure that the collective wisdom of the Archdeacons is heard at all levels of our central church institutions. Outside of this role I am a part-time parish priest in a rural parish, and have found that combining these two roles keeps me grounded in both of them – long may that continue! The important thing is that I am here to support, pray for, and work alongside you – the Archdeacons who provide so much support, guidance and love for the work of God across our dioceses.

    COLUMBIA LAKE QUICK REFERENCE SHEET JUST A FEW AMAZING THINGS ABOUT OUR AMAZING LAKE! . Maximum length – 13.5 km (8.4 mi) . Maximum width – 2 km (1.2 mi) . Typical depth – 15 ft . Average July water temperature – 18 C – making it the largest warm water lake in East Kootenay . Surface Elevation – 808m (2,650 ft) .Area – 6,815 acres (2,758 hectares) . Freezing – last year, it was observed the lake froze on December 7, 2016 and thawed on March 29, 2017. Columbia Lake is fed by several small tributaries. East side tributaries include Warspite and Lansdown Creeks. West Side tributiaries include Dutch, Hardie, Marion and Sun Creeks. Columbia Lake also gets a considerable amount of water at the south end where water from the Kootenay river enters the lake as groundwater. The water balance of Columbia Lake is still not fully understood. The Columbia Lake Stewardship Society continues to do research in this area. Columbia Lake got its name from the Columbia River. The river was so named by American sea captain Robert Gray who navigated his privately owned ship The Columbia Rediviva through its waters in May 1792 trading fur pelts. Columbia Lake is the source of the mighty Columbia River, the largest river in the Pacific Northwest of North America. The Columbia River flows north from the lake while the neighbouring Kootenay flows south. For approximately 100 km (60 mi) the Columbia River and the Kootenay River run parallel and when they reach Canal Flats, the two rivers are less than 2 km (1.2 mi) apart. Historically the Baillie- Grohman Canal connected the two bodies of water to facilitate the navigation of steamboats (although only three trips were ever made through it).
