Magnanimous Members FUND FREE FIELD TRIPS TO THE WITTE “Which one is your favorite?!” The fourth graders darting through the galleries of Confluence and Culture: 300 Years of San Antonio History wondered aloud whether the artifacts they saw on display were real as they raced to find their favorite one. There is a reason for their excitement. Through seven galleries of artifacts, interactives and stories, the Witte’s Confluence and Culture exhibit reveals the history of San Antonio in ways very few have ever seen. Only at the Witte can you examine the real artifacts from the founding of San Antonio to the present day, meet the Maestro, greet a Chili Queen in her jacal, and build a Spanish city. A field trip like this is a priceless memory and supplements what students are learning in the classroom. And these students did it all for free. "A FIELD TRIP LIKE THIS IS A PRICELESS MEMORY AND SUPPLEMENTS WHAT STUDENTS ARE LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM." Member’s gifts to the scholarship fund help Title I schools visit the museum. This year we made a bold goal to bring every student who wanted to learn more about our shared history for free. This big idea turned into action when Mary West and Richard Traylor, longtime Witte members, challenged the Witte to match their gift of $250,000 in order to fund field trips to Confluence and Culture. The Traylors believe that every child should have access to this extraordinary exhibit that celebrates the city’s Tricentennial. Since the exhibition opened in March, 34,000 students, teachers and chaperones have taken the Traylors up on their offer. Another 6,000 have already booked their reservations to join us this fall with a goal of providing free trips for 100,000 students! So far, students have come from 64 cities as far away as Arkadelphia, Arkansas and Matamoros, Mexico. The Witte is currently taking reservations through January 2019 when Confluence and Culture closes. Funding is available on a first come, first served basis. Help us meet Mary West and Richard Traylor’s Tricentennial challenge and send students to the Witte for free! Donations of any amount will help us reach our goal and can be made online or by contacting Michelle Everidge Anderson, Director of Strategic Initiatives, at [email protected].
