Opening Hymn Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty (1)

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee: holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty, God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee, though our sinful human gaze thy glory may not see, only thou art holy; there is none beside thee, perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea; holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty, God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

The Greeting Officiant Alleluia! Christ is Risen. People The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia! Officiant May his grace and peace be with you People May he fill our hearts with joy! The Collect of the Day

Officiant Almighty and eternal God, the strength of those who believe and the hope of those who doubt, may we, who have not seen, have faith and receive the fullness of Christ’s blessing, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The First Reading Isaiah 61: 1-3 The Venerable Jordan Haynie Ware

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion—to give them a garland instead of ashes, 3 the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory. Reader The word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God.

Psalm 104:24-35 O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Yonder is the great and wide sea with its living things too many to number, creatures both small and great. There move the ships, and there is that Leviathan, which you have made for the sport of it. All of them look to you to give them their food in due season. You give it to them; they gather it; you open your hand, and they are filled with good things. You hide your face, and they are terrified; you take away their breath, and they die and return to their dust. You send forth your Spirit, and they are created; and so you renew the face of the earth. May your glory, O Lord, endure for ever; may you rejoice in all your works; you look at the earth and it trembles; you touch the mountains and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will praise my God while I have my being. May these words of mine please you; I will rejoice in the Lord.

4

Let sinners be consumed out of the earth, and the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul. Hallelujah!

The Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13

No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Reader The word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God.

Gradual Hymn I Heard the Voice of Jesus (508)

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me and rest; lay down, thou weary one, lay down thy head upon my breast.” I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn, and sad; 5

I found in him a resting place, and he has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Behold, I freely give the living water; thirsty one, stoop down and drink and live.” I came to Jesus and I drank of that life-giving stream; my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “I am this dark world’s light; look unto me, thy morn shall rise, and all thy day be bright.” I looked to Jesus and I found in him my star, my sun; and in that light of life I’ll walk till travelling days are done.

The Holy Gospel John 7:37-39 The Reverend John Gee Gospeller The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John. People Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, “Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.” ’ Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Gospeller The Gospel of Christ. People Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

He is your living Word, through whom you have created all things. By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh of the Virgin Mary and shared our human nature. He lived and died as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. In fulfilment of your will he stretched out his hands in suffering, to bring release to those who place their hope in you; and so he won for you a holy people. He chose to bear our griefs and sorrows, and to give up his life on the cross, that he might shatter the chains of evil and death, and banish the darkness of

When you do this, you do it in memory of me.” Remembering, therefore, his death and resurrection, we 11

offer you this bread and this cup, giving thanks that you have made us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. We ask you to send your Holy Spirit upon the offering of your holy Church.
