Setting up Skype for Business Engineering Computing Services

What is Skype for Business? Skype for Business is an application that can be used for messaging and video/audio calls. It offers an easy way to stay in touch with your colleagues through , and it gives you the ability to host meetings without leaving your desk. How is it helpful? Skype for Business allows you to talk to your colleagues no matter where they are. You will be able to call your colleagues, share presentations and files, and host meetings easily within the application. Skype for Business also syncs with other apps such as Outlook and OneNote, giving you the ability to see your Skype meetings in your Outlook and take meeting notes within OneNote.

Setting up Skype for Business To set up Skype for Business, you’ll need to use your MUN credentials to log in, given your MUN account is set up as a Microsoft Exchange account. Don’t know if you have a Microsoft Exchange account? Go to www.outlook.mun.ca (do not use Chrome, it will redirect you to MUN’s homepage instead), if you can log in successfully using your MUN credentials here, you have a Microsoft Exchange account. You’re also going to need a , headset, and an updated version of Microsoft Office, 2013 or above. How to install First, check your to ensure that Skype for Business has not already been installed. If you have other Microsoft Office products installed such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., chances are you already have Skype for Business on your desktop. Note that the 2010 version of Microsoft Office and earlier does not include Skype for Business.

For Windows, you can do a quick check by navigating to the Start in the bottom left hand corner of your screen. From there, search: “Skype for Business”. The application should appear above the search bar if it is installed.

For Mac, you can open the Launchpad and look for the Skype for Business icon.

You should also ensure that your computer meets the system specifications needed to run the latest version of Skype for Business. You can reference the table in the System Specifications section below. For University-Owned Computers If your computer is University-owned, and you do not already have Skype for Business, you’ll need to upgrade your entire Microsoft Office Suite to 2013. This can be installed by Engineering Computing Services (ECS). You’ll need to visit the ECS webpage, https://ecs.assist.com/portal, create an account if you do not already have one, and submit a ticket requesting Skype for Business. For Personal Computers If you’d like to use Skype for Business on your own , follow IT Services’ instructions on installing the Microsoft Office Suite at:

Skype for Business for Mac can be installed as a stand-alone application.

Logging in Open the Skype for Business application. On Windows, this can be found under the > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Skype for Business. On Mac, you can find the Skype for Business App in the Launchpad.

When launching Skype for Business, you will see a login screen like the one above. Enter your username and select “Sign In”, which will then prompt you for a password. Once you’re logged in, your screen should look something like the image below.

Note that the of Skype for Business included in this document are from a Windows computer. While the Skype for Business App on Mac has a slightly different interface, all of the features included in this guide should still be easily accessible.
