And he must make a satisfactory effort to develop and demonstrate leadership ability. ADVERTISEMENT Step 4: Complete a Scoutmaster conference and board of review The Scoutmaster conference and board of review for Eagle palms will look a lot like what the Scout experienced while earning Tenderfoot through Life. The conference is a discussion between Scoutmaster and Scout (in full view of others to avoid one-on-one time). The board of review determines the quality of his experience and decides whether he has fulfilled the requirements for the palm. If so, the board not only approves his palm but also encourages him to continue the quest for the next palm. On that note … Step 5: Repeat with more merit badges, more months of tenure The palm-earning process repeats with every five additional merit badges earned. Eagle palms must be earned in sequence, and the three-month tenure requirement must be observed for each palm. In other words, Scouts may only earn one palm at a time. A new three-month clock begins when he earns his previous palm (on the board of review date). Example: Let’s say there’s a Life Scout who has earned 56 merit badges. Impressive! He becomes an Eagle Scout on Jan. 1. As long as he remains active and meets the other Eagle palm requirements I list above, he can earn his first bronze palm on April 1. If he keeps it up, he’ll get a gold palm on July 1. And so on until he turns 18 or runs out of merit badges. Step 6: Wear the right palm (or palms) http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2015/01/14/hereseaglepalmswork/ 2/13 5/21/2015 A stepbystep guide to how Eagle Palms work A bronze palm represents five additional merit badges, a gold palm 10, and a silver palm 15. (Related: Why does silver outrank gold in some Scouting awards?) What about 20, 25, 30, etc.? That’s when you start combining palms. (Warning: Math required!) Here’s what a Scout would wear at the first six palm milestones: 26 total merit badges (21 required + 5 additional) = 1 bronze palm 31 total merit badges (21 required + 10 additional) = 1 gold palm 36 total merit badges (21 required + 15 additional) = 1 silver palm 41 total merit badges (21 required + 20 additional) = 1 bronze palm and 1 silver palm 46 total merit badges (21 required + 25 additional) = 1 gold palm and 1 silver palm 51 total merit badges (21 required + 30 additional) = 2 silver palms The pattern continues like that until the Scout runs out of merit badges or turns 18. Step 7: Know where to wear palms Eagle Scout palms may be worn in one of three locations: On the Eagle Scout square knot, which is worn by adult Scouters. Attached to the ribbon of the Eagle Scout medal, which is worn on special occasions by youth and adults. On the Eagle Scout rank emblem (patch), which is sewn on the youth field uniform. Step 8: Keep it up until age 18 All of the requirements except the board of review must be completed before age 18, and time extensions are not available. That means a young man who earns Eagle at age 14 or 15 has plenty of time to earn many palms. • What the Forgotten Americans Really Want − and How to Give It to Them
What the forgotten Americans really want − and how to give it to them By Isabel Sawhill October 2018 America is divided—economically, politically, and culturally. Income inequality is at virtually unprecedented levels. Political polarization has risen to new heights (although the public is less polarized than their elected representatives). And we are sorting ourselves into distinctive cultural tribes that increasingly live in different communities. The proportion of parents who would be disturbed if their child married someone from the opposite party has risen from 5 percent in 1960 to about 50 percent now. 1 The election of Donald Trump didn’t cause these divisions, but his presidency is exacerbating them. With midterm elections fast approaching and the future of our political system at a crossroads, the question on everyone’s mind is: what can we do? In an attempt to answer this question, I spent the last two years studying people I’m calling the “forgotten Americans”—those who’ve been left behind by our evolving economy, many of whom voted for Trump. That work gave me some tentative answers, which I’ve published in my new book, The Forgotten Americans: An Economic Agenda for a Divided Nation. But it also reaffirmed how difficult these questions are, and how none of us—myself included—has all the answers. As part of my research, I met with some of the forgotten Americans themselves. What did they think of my solutions to these problems? I went to Syracuse, New York; Greensboro, North Carolina; and St. Louis, Missouri. The people I spoke to were diverse in terms of age, race, occupation, and political leaning, and had modest incomes—less than $70,000 a year—and no college degree.

Copyright By Jennifer Leann Weir 2020 Abstract This thesis reviews four young adult/new adult retellings to understand how these novels shape understanding of and empathy for real world social issues. The first chapter explores the novel Girls Made of Snow and Glass and how the reshaping of the “Snow White” narrative, within the text, undermines the patriarchal narrative that pits woman against woman and, instead, tells a story of female solidarity. Chapter two considers A Court of Thornes and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury and how the fallout of “The Beauty and the Beast” narrative in book one carries into book two as a means to build empathy and understanding for those suffering with mental health issues, including those suffering with PTSD. Finally, Chapter three reviews The Lunar Chronicles and how the pandemic within these science fiction retellings foster discussion around medical injustices and the dehumanization that allows such injustice to occur. • Scripting the Game
Scripting the Game By Mike Pondsmith, with concepts provided by Flint Dille • Art by C.A. Bates • Copyright 2020 by R. Talsorian Games You’ve got a Game Name, Limits, Genre(s), Universe Rules, and some nice bits you know you want to put into your Game. Now it’s time to write theScript . Whether for a TV show, movie, or RPG adventure, you need a script to tell you where the action’s going. And pacing is the most important part of that script. You not only have to tell a story, but also have to break it up into manageable chunks for your players. Each “chunk” of story should convey information, be entertaining, and help provide excitement by pushing the plot along in some visible way. One way to do this is by using a writing trick called a Beat Chart; a framework in which certain actions or scenes take place in a certain order. The order of the scenes helps both maintain dramatic tension and allows the storyline to make sense. Each Beat Chart has five parts, or Beats: the Hook, the Development, the Cliffhanger, the Climax, and the Res- olution. Some Beats, like the Hook, Climax, and Resolution occur only once. Other Beats, like the Development and the Cliffhanger, are used over and over, but in alternating order. THERE ARE THREE RULES FOR SETTING UP A BEAT CHART 1. The story always begins with a Hook. The Hook is a short piece of action or suspense that is used to involve the reader, viewer, or player in the story.
