Tuesday, August 23, 2016 1:45 PM All-School Ice Cream Social and Ribbon-Cutting Celebration Krill Construction provided lots and lots of ice cream to the entire school on a beautiful, sunny afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of Kemper Science and Engineering. John and Betty Kemper earned big cheers from the students and hugs from their six Lake Ridge Academy grandchildren as President Klimas told the excited audience about how their creative ideas and scientific solutions might solve some of the world’s biggest challenges one day. To help mark the occasion for years to come, Karen (Kemper) Kastelic provided a time capsule in which hundreds of student-submitted science predictions will be stored until the school’s 75th anniversary in 2038. Then, science got “super fun and silly” as students participated in age-appropriate science activities and challenges in the quad.

12 Kemper Science and Engineering Donors

Supporting the first new building at Lake Ridge Academy in more than a decade, donors made gifts totaling more than $3 million for Kemper Science and Engineering. In keeping with the school’s strong fiscal mandate, 25% of every gift was directed to an endowment fund to reduce the additional operating strain and help maintain the building going forward. In addition to outright building gifts from more than 100 families, other donors provided gifts of equipment and supported Gift from the Heart at the 2015 Auction Gala to fund additional equipment needs for the expanded engineering workshop and technology for the building.

Thank you, donors, for making a difference every day at Lake Ridge Academy!

Like other private schools, tuition covers just 75% of a Lake Ridge Academy education, so every student is, in effect, receiving a silent scholarship and benefiting from individual donors who give to the school. Charitable gifts bring excellence to our educational program by keeping class sizes small, directly supporting our teachers, and giving our students a unique learning environment on our 93-acre campus.

In this annual honor roll, we gratefully recognize donors for their commitments made between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016, which include charitable gifts, future pledges, gifts in kind, auction purchases, and sponsorships. Their gifts to Lake Ridge Academy totaled more than $1.3 million and are counted towards the 50th Anniversary Campaign.

Parents Association Gift

The Parents Association graciously supports our students and teachers throughout the academic year through their tireless volunteerism, participation in events, grants to our teachers for special classroom projects, and monetary donations offered from the fundraising events that they sponsor throughout the year. In 2015-2016, the Parents Association funded the concrete pavement of new basketball and four-square courts on the playground, and their gift was supplemented by the Jones Family with brand new basketball hoops.

Members of the Lake Ridge Academy Legacy Society have thoughtfully planned for the school’s future through their own estate planning. Their future gifts will strengthen academic programs and sustain important educational initiatives for the long term.

Legacy Society members share a commitment to preserve and refine the school’s proud history of excellence through will commitments, trusts, gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and gifts of life insurance. Some members have planned their gifts in ways that will benefit their own heirs while other donors will receive a fixed life income even as they also benefit the school. Their generous spirit will benefit generations of students in the future.
