There are local amenities in the nearby village of Shrewton including a village shop, primary school, garage and public houses, with more extensive amenities including social and leisure facilities and mainline railway station to be found in the historic cathedral city of Salisbury. There are many good schools in the area in both the public and private sector including nearby Dauntseys and the schools in Salisbury city centre. Sporting facilities in the area include fishing on the nearby chalk streams, golf at South West Wilts and Highpost, racing at Salisbury, Newbury and Wincanton. Sailing along the south coast. Description Cozens House is an exceptional period village house which is believed to date back to the mid 18th Cenury with later additions. The older part of house is built of cob under a tile roof. It is Listed Grade II as being of Architectural and Historical Importance. The current owners completed an attractive extension in 2011 which provides a fantastic new kitchen / breakfast room and boot room (both with under floor heating) and a superb dressing room and en-suite bathroom on the first floor. In 2016 planning permission was granted to create a large orangery on the southern side of the house with a link from the kitchen and relocation of the downstairs cloakroom. Planning reference: 16/00300/FUL. This would make a lovely addition to the property. Internally the original part of the house has well proportioned reception rooms with a wealth of period features including tiled floors, open fireplaces, exposed beams and period doors. The Kitchen / Breakfast room has an extensive range of wall and floor cupboards with Brazilian slate worktops, 2 oven oil fired Aga, dishwasher, fridge, separate oven and central island. There is a door to a Larder which faces north. Beyond is a good sized utility / boot room with newly fitted cupboards and a Belfast sink. On the first floor is a Master Bedroom suite with dressing room and en-suite bathroom comprising roll top bath, double basins and a shower. There are a further 3 bedrooms and a family bathroom. • Dorset & South Wiltshire
Groundwater Situation Report Wessex (Dorset & South Wiltshire) Update 12th September 2017 Current situation Current forecast risk of groundwater flooding There are currently no groundwater flood alerts for Salisbury Plain, Cranborne Chase and the West of Dorset. The latest summary of the water situation in the South West, giving details of the rainfall, groundwater levels and river flows, can found on the GOV.UK website. The link to these pages is below: August finished much drier than it started. Overall for the month the long term average (LTA) for August was ‘normal’ at 95% LTA, 62 mm. The rivers responded well to the rainfall and most flows reflect the geographical distribution of the rainfall, drier in the north and west and wetter in the south and east. Most rivers are now ‘normal’ for the time of year though South Newton on the groundwater dominated Chalk is ‘below normal’ for the time of year. The groundwater sites show a mixed response with some groundwater sites responding to the wetter than average summer, 134% LTA, whilst others on the Chalk and Greater Oolite are still ‘notably low. Several boreholes have received significant recharge this month and were still increasing at month end others while still receding are doing so at a lower rate. Sites on the Greater Oolite and Chalk are ‘notably low’ for the time of year. Many others are ‘normal’ with the exception of Kingston Russell Road, situated in the West Dorset catchment, which was ‘notably high’. In the West of Dorset, the level at the Kingston Russell borehole, on 12/09/2017, was 105.760 metres above sea level (mAOD).

  • Wiltshire Rollestone Camp
Case Study>> Rural Agricultural>>Rollestone Camp, The Packway, Shrewton, Wiltshire Client>>Wiltshire Grain Ltd Project>>Erection of a Flatstore to extend the centralised grain storage facility for a farmers co-operative GP Planning Ltd successfully obtained planning permission for the erection of a 3620sqm flat- store building for the storage of 20,000 tonnes of grain for a County wide farmers co-operative on Salisbury Plain, near to the Stonehenge World Heritage Site. Centralised storage is beneficial to the economics of arable production; farmers have more control over their investment, conditions under which products are stored are professionally controlled, and the co-operative system results in fewer silos and/or grain store buildings being necessary across the broader countryside. Changes in the farming of grain and seed crops, due to developments in the global economy, and in the production of biofuels, means that agricultural production must increase; meanwhile there is an acknowl- edged shortage of on-farm storage and a demand by end-processors to take their inputs on a just-in-time basis. A flatstore is needed to • Provide a facility for the increase in members of the co-operative who have very large amounts of the same variety / quality of grain; and • To accumulate very large amounts of the same variety / quality of grain for delivery of large orders. The site is on Salisbury Plain, with military areas in close proximity. The location is also close to the Stone- henge World Heritage Site with its related ancient monuments and historic landscape. There are also wide areas of land nearby comprising Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Special Protection Areas.
