Thank you to the American Legion for having our members for our monthly luncheon! Wayne Sensel presented to the members in attendance about the upcoming July 4 “Homecoming Carnival” and fireworks. We also want to thank Centralia IGA for catering the meal.

The featured presenter was Mike Young, superintendent of the Centralia Township. He talked about the duties of the township and how they help our community.

In addition to property tax and taking care of the roads that are not incorporated into the cities or villages, the Township provides General Assistance to those who are not eligible for other State or Federal assistance, and do not have the financial resources to provide for their own needs. The Township provides temporary assistance until the person can find a more permanent program. While on the program, they receive help paying for medication and doctor visits.

There is also the Earnfare program designed to provide adults who receive Food Stamps and who volunteer an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, earn cash assistance, and become self- sufficient.
