  • Press Clips March 25, 2021
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips March 25, 2021 Sabres’ winless streak hits 15 as Penguins roll to 5-2 win By Will Graves Associated Press March 25, 2021 PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins are tired. They’re hurting. And in a way, they’re scrambling. Nothing a visit from the reeling Buffalo Sabres can’t fix. Sidney Crosby picked up his 13th goal of the season, Tristan Jarry stopped 26 shots and the Penguins extended Buffalo’s winless streak to 15 games with a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night. Evan Rodrigues, Kris Letang, John Marino and Zach Aston-Reese scored also for the Penguins, who recovered from a sluggish three-game set against New Jersey in which they managed just one victory by pouncing on the undermanned and overmatched Sabres. “We’re a close group, a very resilient group,” Marino said. “We’ve had a lot of come-from-behind wins, a lot of bounce-back wins (like tonight). It says a lot about the guys in the room.” Buffalo goalie Dustin Tokarski, making his first NHL start in more than five years with Carter Hutton out due to a lower-body injury, finished with 37 saves and kept the Sabres in it until late in the second period, when Marino and Aston-Reese scored just over 2 minutes apart to give the Penguins all the cushion required. Rasmus Dahlin scored his second goal of the season and Victor Olofsson beat Jarry on a penalty shot in the third period, but the NHL’s worst team remained in a tailspin.

NHL MORNING SKATE – JAN. 4, 2019 THURSDAY’S RESULTS Home Team in Caps Minnesota 4, TORONTO 3 BOSTON 6, Calgary 4 BUFFALO 4, Florida 3 Carolina 5, PHILADELPHIA 3 NY ISLANDERS 3, Chicago 2 (OT) MONTREAL 2, Vancouver 0 ST. LOUIS 5, Washington 2 Tampa Bay 6, LOS ANGELES 2 KUCHEROV NETS FOUR POINTS TO MAINTAIN ELUSIVE SCORING PACE Nikita Kucherov (1-3—4) posted at least four points for the fourth time this season to extend his overall point streak to 12 games (8-19—27), posting his seventh consecutive multi-point showing (6-15—21). He now leads the League with 20-49—69 at the midpoint of Tampa Bay’s season, marking the 53rd instance in NHL history of a player accumulating at least 69 points through 41 team games. This marks the eighth occurrence since 1993-94. * Kucherov is the second player this season to record multiple points in seven consecutive team games, joining Toronto’s Auston Matthews (10-6—16 in 7 GP from Oct. 3-15). The only other player in Tampa Bay history to achieve the feat is Vincent Lecavalier, who had multiple points in eight straight contests from Nov. 3-19, 2007 (7-14—21) - also the NHL’s last such run longer than seven games. * Kucherov has collected at least four points three times in his past five outings. Only three others have achieved that feat since 1996-97: Mario Lemieux in 1996-97 and 2001-02, Jaromir Jagr in 1998-99 and Nisse Ekman in 2005-06. * The 25-year-old has scored a goal in eight of his past nine outings, including an active five- game goal streak, to hit 20 goals for the fifth consecutive season.

  • Ten #Nhlstats About the Washington Capitals, Who Are Headed to the Postseason for the Seventh Consecutive Season and 31St Time in Franchise History
Ten #NHLStats about the Washington Capitals, who are headed to the postseason for the seventh consecutive season and 31st time in franchise history. 1. Washington has reached the postseason for the 13th time in 14 seasons (since 2007-08), one of two clubs to do so in 2020-21 – the Pittsburgh Penguins have extended their active run to 15 straight postseason appearances. 2. The Capitals’ run of seven consecutive postseason appearances is the second-longest stretch in franchise history (14 straight trips from 1983 to 1996). It also is the second-longest active run in the NHL behind the Penguins (15; 2007–2021) and ahead of the Nashville Predators (6; 2015–2020) – Nashville can match Washington this season. 3. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, who between them have the Capitals records for career playoff goals, assists, points and games played, will extend their shared franchise benchmark for most years in the postseason (currently 12). They are two of 13 active players with at least 100 career playoff points, and one of five sets of current teammates on that list (also Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, PIT; David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron, BOS; Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, CHI; Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture, SJS). 4. Alex Ovechkin ranks 18th in NHL history with 69 career playoff goals, trailing only Patrick Marleau (72) among active players, and is among the top 50 in career playoff points (131; 44th). Ovechkin has scored at least four goals in 11 of his 12 previous postseason appearances, second to only Wayne Gretzky (12x) for the most such playoff performances.

  • Buffalo Sabres Digital Press
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 30, 2018 Sheary scores in 3rd to lift Sabres over Blue Jackets 5-4 By Mitch Stacy Associated Press January 29, 2019 COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A long midseason break apparently was just what Conor Sheary needed. Coming back from a bye week followed by the All-Star weekend, the Buffalo Sabres forward was ready, ending an 11-game goal drought with the winner Tuesday night. Sheary got an easy tap-in 2:12 into the third period to lift Buffalo over the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4. Artemi Panarin was roundly booed by his home fans when he was introduced in the starting lineup. This was Columbus’ first game since Panarin’s agent said the star forward would not discuss a new contract until after the season. Panarin will be an unrestricted free agent. He wasn’t made available for interviews after the game. Sheary and linemate Evan Rodrigues each had a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who had lost four of five before getting the time off. Sheary has struggled all season and hadn’t scored since before Christmas. “Coming off the break, I had fresh legs and was well-rested,” Sheary said. “I have to give credit to my linemates when credit is due. I think our line in general was buzzing all night and we had good chemistry, and I think all that together just added up to a good night.” Carter Hutton had 33 saves to get his first win since Jan. 8. Buffalo had a solid game except for a stretch at the end of the second period when Columbus scored two quick goals to tie it at 4.

  • Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

Vermont forward recruit Zemgus Girgensons was the first player off the board in the opening round on Friday with the No. 14 pick by the Buffalo Sabres, while Providence recruit Mark Jankowski went 21st overall to the Calgary Flames.
