30 THE CCAA The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) has been one of the nation’s most successful inter- collegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in December 1938.

The 12-member league is home to some of the nation’s finest NCAA Division II athletic programs in Cal Poly Pomo- na, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State L.A., Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, Humboldt State, UC San Diego, San Francisco State and Sonoma State.

These institutions compete in seven women’s and six men’s CCAA-sponsored sports. Fall sports include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. Men’s and women’s basketball are contested in the winter, and women’s , men’s , men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, softball and comprise spring competition.

CCAA members have won 148 NCAA Championships (100 men, 48 women) which is far and away the most of any Division II conference.

The CCAA has undergone several changes in conference membership since charter members UC Santa Barbara, Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State came together to form the league in 1938. Over the past 68 years, a number of institutions have been members of the CCAA, including Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Chapman, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Pacific, Pepperdine, UC Riverside, UC Davis and Grand Canyon University.
