A subsequent return to club football with Rosenborg in 2005 was ill-fated: he quit the next year, having been signed off with health problems. • Returned to coaching, again with Tromsø, in 2008, securing some solid league finishes and two attempts at UEFA Europa League qualifying before heading abroad for the first time in his career to take the reins at Swedish outfit Djurgården in 2013. • Appointed Norway coach in September 2013 after Egil Olsen agreed to step down, penning a four-year contract, and lost out to Hungary in the UEFA EURO 2016 play-offs. Joachim Löw Date of birth: 3 February 1960 Nationality: German Playing career: SC Freiburg (three times), VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt, Karlsruher SC, FC Schaffhausen, FC Winterthur, FC Frauenfeld Coaching career: FC Winterthur (youth), FC Frauenfeld, VfB Stuttgart, Fenerbahçe SK, Karlsruher SC, Adanaspor AŞ, FC Tirol Innsbruck, FK Austria Wien, Germany (assistant), Germany • A native of the Black Forest in south-west Germany, Löw spent most of his playing days with local club Freiburg, where he had three spells, before winding down his career in Switzerland. • Operated as a player-coach in Switzerland before becoming an assistant, and later head coach, back in Germany with Stuttgart. Succeeded Rolf Fringer in 1996 and led the Swabian side to a German Cup win in his first season and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final against Chelsea FC in his second. • Left Stuttgart for Fenerbahçe but struggled to match his early success until he joined Tirol Innsbruck, guiding the team to the 2001/02 Austrian Bundesliga title. • After nine months with Austria Wien he was summoned by old friend Jürgen Klinsmann to become his assistant with Germany. The pair steered the Nationalmannschaft to a third-place finish on home soil at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. • Replaced Klinsmann as head coach, taking the side to a runners-up spot at UEFA EURO 2008 and third place at the 2010 World Cup. They also reached the last four of UEFA EURO 2012, before qualifying unbeaten for the 2014 global finals. • The real glory was to follow in Brazil, Löw leading the team to their fourth world title with a final defeat of Argentina. In 2015 he signed a new contract running until 2018, although Germany were unable to add the European title to their world crown, losing to hosts France in the UEFA EURO 2016 semi-finals. 5 Norway - Germany Sunday 4 September 2016 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Ullevaal Stadion, Oslo Match officials Referee William Collum (SCO) Assistant referees Douglas Ross (SCO) , Francis Connor (SCO) Fourth official John Beaton (SCO) FIFA Match Commissioner Dane Jošt (SVN) Referee observer Vladimir Antonov (MDA) Referee Name Date of birth UEFA matches William Collum 18/01/1979 5 76 FIFA Wold Cup matches involving teams from the two countries involved in this match Stage Date Competition Home Away Result Venue reached 07/06/2013 WC QR Albania Norway 1-1 Tirana 15/10/2013 WC QR Sweden Germany 3-5 Solna Other matches involving teams from either of the two countries involved in this match Stage Date Competition Home Away Result Venue reached 05/05/2006 U17 GS-FT Germany Czech Republic 0-0 Grevenmacher 11/05/2006 U17 SF Germany Russia 0-1 Luxembourg 14/07/2008 U19 GS-FT Germany Spain 2-1 Plzen 26/07/2008 U19 Final Germany Italy 3-1 Jablonec nad Nisou 26/02/2009 UEL R32 VfB Stuttgart FC Zenit 1-2 Stuttgart 05/08/2009 UCL 3QR Stabæk Fotball FC København 0-0 Oslo 24/02/2011 UEL R32 Bayer 04 Leverkusen FC Metalist Kharkiv 2-0 Leverkusen 23/02/2012 UEL R32 Club Brugge KV Hannover 96 0-1 Bruges 22/08/2012 UEL PO VfB Stuttgart FC Dinamo Moskva 2-0 Stuttgart 05/12/2012 UCL GS FC Bayern München FC BATE Borisov 4-1 Munich 20/02/2013 UCL R16 Galatasaray AŞ FC Schalke 04 1-1 Istanbul 07/06/2013 WC QR Albania Norway 1-1 Tirana 15/10/2013 WC QR Sweden Germany 3-5 Solna 05/11/2013 UCL GS FC Shakhtar Donetsk Bayer 04 Leverkusen 0-0 Donetsk 25/02/2014 UCL R16 FC Zenit Borussia Dortmund 2-4 St Petersburg 30/09/2014 UCL GS PFC CSKA Moskva FC Bayern München 0-1 Khimki 11/03/2015 UCL R16 FC Bayern München FC Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 Munich 17/03/2016 UEL R16 Bayer 04 Leverkusen Villarreal CF 0-0 Leverkusen 6 Norway - Germany Sunday 4 September 2016 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Ullevaal Stadion, Oslo Competition facts The Week of Football concept enables fans around the world to enjoy the very best action from the European Qualifiers – which will determine UEFA's representatives at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
