Description of product to which the name in point 1 applies: ‘Ail fumé d’Arleux’ is a garlic that keeps for a considerable period of time owing to a traditional method and human know-how involving braiding the garlic and smoking it using local peat and/or lignite and/or short straw and/or sawdust. ‘Ail fumé d’Arleux’ is made from pink spring garlic (Allium sativum, a member of the lily family), of the Ail du Nord type. It is characterised by a long dormant period, medium-size bulbs and the absence of a floral stalk and it is adapted to the climate and closely connected with the history of the Nord-Pas de Calais region. -

CHAPTER XII SERVICE WITH THE THIRD BRITISH ARMY PON the arrival of the division in the new area, units took stations mentioned in Field Orders No. 6 and in the march table attached thereto, which appear in the Appendix as u Exhibit 15. The new area covered an attractive stretch of country west of Arras shown on the accompanying map, which also shows graphically the location of divi- sional units. Arras, a destroyed city of some importance, was still held by the British. In preparation for defense against further enemy pressure in that sector several systems of trenches had been indicated in the rear of the line held by the 3d British Army. These positions were in various stages of development. Some had been not much more than outlined. A great deal of work had been done by large forces of coolie laborers in digging the trenches to a depth of about two and a half feet, leaving them to be completed by troops designated to occupy them. When the division arrived in this area of the 3d British Army, the Division Commander, accompanied by Colonel Stanley H. Ford, Chief of Staff, visited General Sir Julian Byng, commanding that army, and received from him personally an outline of the situation and the possibilities of the German attempt to drive through in that vicinity. While with the 3d British Army, Division Headquarters was located in the town of Beauval. The locations of other units of the division are shown on the accompanying map. On June 24th the Division Commander received from the VI Corps of the 3d British Army a secret memorandum, of which the following is a copy: SECRET VI CORPS G. -

De Commissie heeft indertijd de vereniging INRA Europe Marketing Research Institute, waarvan een aantal researchbureaus in de Lid-Staten deel uitmaken (DIVO-Frankfort, NSvS-Den Haag, SEMA-Parijs , SIRME-Milaan, SOBEMAP-Brussel), opgedragen een onderzoek in te stellen naar de huidige toestand en de verwachte ontwikkeling van de koffie-, cacao- en bananenmarkt in de Lid-Staten van de E.E.G. De opbrengst van deze drie tropische produkten maakt namelijk een zeer groot gedeelte uit van het nationale inkomen van vele ontwikkelingslanden . Aangezien deze studie van belang kan zijn voor overheidsinstanties en particuliere instellingen in de E.E.G. en in de geassocieerde landen die zich voor deze vraag stukken interesseren , heeft de Commissie besloten tot publikatie van de studie over te gaan . -

CHAPTER VI1 BEFORE AMIENS DURINGthe night of March 25th, on which the pickets of rhe 4th Australian Division were, not without a grim eagerness, waiting for the Germans on the roads south-west of Arras, the 3rd Division had been entraining near St. Omer in Flanders to assemble next to the 4th. Some of its trains were intended to stop at Doullens on the main line of road and rail, due east of Arras, and twenty-one miles north of Amiens, and the troops to march thence towards Arras; other trains were, to be switched at Doullens to the Arras branch line, and to empty their troops at Mondicourt-Pas, where they would be billetted immediately south-west of the 4th Division. The eight trains allotted for the division were due to leave from 9.10 p.m. onwards at three hours’ intervals during the night and the next day; but, after the first trains had departed, carrying head- quarters of the 10th and 11th Brigades and some advanced units, there was delay in the arrival oi those for the rest of the division. The waiting battalions lay down at the roadside in the bitter cold; some companies were stowed into barns. During the morning of the 26th the trains again began to appear regularly. On the journey to Doullens the troops saw first evidences of the great battle in the south-a number of men who had been in the fighting, and several red cross trains full of wounded. There was a most depressing atmosphere of hopelessness about them all (says the history of the 40th Battalion),l but we saw some New Zealanders who told us that their division had gone down, and that the 4th Australian Division was also on the way, so we bucked up considerably.
