April 29, 2009 Contact: Jeff Bechthold ([email protected]) Tuesday, April 28 Dawgs Continues Nine-Game Lewis-Clark State 5, Washington 2 Friday, May 1 Homestand With Series vs. Trojans USC at Washington THIS WEEK: The Washington baseball team (18-23 overall, 7-8 in the Pac-10) continues its current nine-game Husky Ballpark, 6:30 p.m. homestand this weekend at USC (21-20 overall, 10-8 in the Pac-10) visits for a three-game series this Friday through RADIO: KKNW AM-1150 Sunday at Husky Ballpark. The Huskies enter the weekend in sixth place in the Pac-10, one spot behind the fifth-place Trojans. Washington has swept California and Oregon in two of its last three Pac-10 series, but were swept by UCLA Saturday, May 2 in between the two. The Huskies had a four-game winning streak snapped Tuesday when Lewis-Clark State beat them, USC at Washington 5-2, on a ninth-inning homer. Friday’s series opener gets underway at 6:30 p.m. with Husky freshman RHP Aaron West Husky Ballpark, 2:00 p.m. taking the hill to face USC ace righty Brad Boxberger. Saturday’s 2:00 p.m. game will see UW senior right-hander Jason RADIO: KKNW AM-1150 Erickson go against Trojans freshman RHP Andrew Triggs. Finally, Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. contest will feature a matchup FREE ADMISSION of Husky freshman righty Andrew Kittredge against USC’s right-handed Robert Stock. All three games will air live on KKNW AM-1150 radio, also available online via gohuskies.com. Admission to Saturday’s game is free, as a part of the Sunday, May 3 annual UW Spring Fling, featuring the Windermere Cup/Opening Day regatta, a dual track meet vs. WSU and softball USC at Washington vs. Oregon. COACH “K”: In 2004, Husky baseball coach Ken Knutson became the winningest baseball coach in the history of Friday-Sunday, May 8-10 the program. In 2007, he became only the 17th coach in Pac-10 history to reach 500 career wins. Last year, he became the Oregon State at Washington winningest coach in any sport in UW history. Those are just a few of the many accomplishments on Knutson’s impressive three-game, Pac-10 series resume. In his 16-plus seasons at the helm of his alma mater’s baseball team, Knutson has led the Dawgs to two Pac-10 May 8 game at Safeco Field championships, four Pac-10 Northern Division titles and six NCAA Regionals. His career record now stands at 577-392-2 (.595). Before becoming the head man in 1993, Knutson served as the UW pitching coach for eight seasons. In 1985, Tuesday-Wednesday, May 12-13 his staff led the NCAA with a 2.80 ERA. Knutson holds a 297-137-2 (.683) record in home games. He is 234-183 (.561) BYU at Washington in Pac-10 games. He’s coached 55 first-team All-Pac-10 selections in 16 seasons, and has been named league coach two-game, non-conference series of the year three times. A 1981 All-Pac-10 pitcher at the UW, he is joined by assistants Joe Ross, Tighe Dickinson, Kevin Miller and Josh Scofield. QUICK PITCHES . However, this time, the Dawgs will play two games at the home of the Seattle Mariners. The UW played Arizona ★ 1. UC Irvine 30-11 State April 3 at Safeco, and will play Oregon State there on May 8. The OSU game starts at 6:30 p.m. and is the first game 2. Rice 28-10 of a three-game Pac-10 series. Two seasons ago, the Huskies beat No. 8 OSU, 6-2, in their first-ever game at Safeco. 3. Arizona State ★ 31-9 Attendance was 10,421, still a league record for a conference game. Last year, the Huskies edged Arizona, 1-0, on a two-hit, 4.
