If you would like assistance in planning an upgrade path that meets your security needs while minimizing downtime, please contact your Customer Success Manager. If you have already installed 8.10.1 and rebooted all appliances, you do not have to reboot all appliances after installing 8.10.2.1. WARNING: 8.10.2.1 does not support Data Collectors and Message Collectors running the CentOS operating system. If your system includes Data Collectors and Message Collectors running the CentOS operating system, contact your Customer Success Manager for details on upgrading Data Collectors and Message Collectors to Oracle Linux before installing 8.10.2.1. Overview 3 WARNING: In the installation menu, the Select Model Type window displays options for Storage Node and Compute Node. These options are not available for installation in 8.10.2.1. WARNING: ScienceLogic strongly suggest you contact Customer Support or your Customer Success Manager to plan your migration from CentOS (versions of SL1 prior to 8.1.1) to 8.10.2.1. WARNING: 7.x systems must be upgraded to 7.8.5 before the migration to the 8.10.2.1 release. Please contact your Customer Success Manager to begin a discussion on the migration plan that is appropriate for your system. WARNING: The Knowledge Base includes known vulnerabilities for cross-site scripting and SQL injection. If you are updating from a previous installation, ScienceLogic strongly recommends that you disable the Knowledge Base. WARNING: If your system is not currently running a recent release, the upgrade process includes importing multiple upgrade files. You must wait until an update file has imported successfully (i.e. the Import Status column displays Complete in both the EM7 Release pane and the ScienceLogic OS pane) before importing the next update file. CAUTION: If you are using the new user interface, please see the section on Issues Addressed in the New User Interface before upgrading to 8.10.2.1. ScienceLogic recommends that Systems running an AP2 version earlier than 5.55.1.3 upgrade their version of AP2 before upgrading to 8.10.2.1. CAUTION: Before installing a release, ScienceLogic recommends that you verify that recent backups are available for your system. CAUTION: During the normal system update process, multiple processes are stopped and restarted. This might result in missed polls, gaps in data, and/or unexpected errors. ScienceLogic recommends that you always install ScienceLogic releases during a maintenance window. Overview 4 CAUTION: The ScienceLogic system update process starts a background process that can perform any required post-upgrade tasks. The post-patch update process is automatically stopped after 24 hours. However, depending on the size of your database as well as the version from which you are upgrading, the post-upgrade tasks can take several days to perform. If the post-patch update process is stopped after 24 hours, the process will automatically re-start and continue processing from the point at which it was stopped. If you see an event that indicates the post-patch update process was stopped, you do not need to contact ScienceLogic support for assistance until you see the same event for three consecutive days. TIP: Before you install a ScienceLogic release, ScienceLogic recommends reviewing the hardware specifications of all the appliances in your system to ensure they meet the requirements for the current usage of your system. For more information, see https://portal.sciencelogic.com/portal/system- requirements. TIP: ScienceLogic regularly uploads new and updated PowerPacks to the Customer Portal before packaging those PowerPacks in a system update file. For more information, see https://portal.sciencelogic.com/portal/powerpacks. Issues Addressed in 8.10.2.1 SNMP Traps l Addressed an issue with SNMP traps that was causing performance problems on Message Collectors. Sl1 now properly applies trap filters to varbind OIDs that include values that are indexed (usually interfaces). New Features in 8.10.2 8.10.2 includes the following new features: Audit Logs l When a user deletes a Content Monitoring Policy, the audit log records the user ID and the device ID associated with the deleted policy. Credentials l In SOAP/XML Credentials, the Embedded Password field now accepts values up to 65,000 characters in length. Issues Addressed in 8.10.2.1 5 Issues Addressed in 8.10.2 The following issues are addressed in the 8.10.2 release: API l API requests to "/api/device/<device_ID>/performance_data" now successfully return device data collected via PowerShell. l The Access Hook "CRED_VIEW" can be used to view but not edit credentials via the ScienceLogic API. Collector Groups l To provide the functionality of the deprecated PROC_OVERRIDE setting in the silo.conf file, SL1 now includes settings to define the number of collection tasks that can be performed per collection worker- process, the number of collection objects in a PowerPack for which SL1 can perform collection in parallel, and the number of PowerPacks for which SL1 can perform collection in parallel. Database Tool l In the DB Tool page (System > Tools > DB Tool), users can again use "<" (less than) and ">" (greater than) in database queries. Device Performance l In the Device Performance page (Registry > Devices > bar-graph icon), under System Process Monitor, the Process Report previously displayed 255 as the Process Count regardless of the actual number of processes. Process Count now reflects the actual number of processes running on the device. Devices l When multiple devices use the Critical Ping feature, and these devices fire critical ping at different frequencies (for example, some devices use a frequency of 15 seconds and some devices use a frequency of 60 seconds), critical ping no longer intermittently fails (flaps) for the devices that use a higher frequency. Interfaces l After upgrading from an earlier version to 8.10.2 or later, when SL1 collects interface data, users will no longer see an unhandled exception and missed collections. Platform l When the retention timespan is exceeded, SL1 now successfully prunes the database tables "meta_ stats.device_ratings_hourly" and "meta_stats.device_ratings_rollup_daily". l Queries to the view "master.V_dynamic_app_device_presentations" return accurate data and run more quickly and efficiently. Scheduler Issues Addressed in 8.10.2 6 l When a user deletes a schedule for device maintenance from the Schedule Manager page (Registry > Schedules > Schedule Manager) during device maintenance, the affected device(s) no longer remain in maintenance indefinitely. Instead, when a schedule for device maintenance is deleted, device maintenance immediately ends for the affected device(s). 5 l When using the Schedule Editor to put one or more devices into maintenance mode, if you edit the start time and end time such that the current time is within that timespan, the Schedule Editor now immediately puts the devices into maintenance mode. l When using the Schedule Editor to put one or more devices into maintenance mode, if the start date and start time are a date and time in the past, the Schedule Editor now immediately puts the devices into maintenance mode. Security l Addressed a security vulnerability for cross-site scripting. New Features in the New User Interface The following list is an overview of the features included in the new user interface.

Due to its distributed nature, MySQL Cluster has a far more complicated architecture than a standard MySQL database. This presentation and white paper will describe the internal architecture of the MySQL Cluster product and the different mechanisms and process that exists to insure the availability of the cluster. We will also take a close look at the data and message flow that takes place between the nodes in the cluster during different types of operations. 2 MySQL Cluster Features MySQL Cluster can be distinguished from many other clustering products in that it offers five nines availability with a shared-nothing architecture. Most clustering products use a shared-disk architecture. Using a shared- nothing architecture allows the cluster to run on commodity hardware, thus greatly reducing costs compared to shared-disk architecture. Having a shared-nothing architecture does, however, come with a different cost, namely, a more complex way of ensuring high availability and synchronization of the nodes which is mainly seen as increased network traffic. MySQL Cluster also provides ACID transactions with row level locking using the READ-COMMITTED isolation level. MySQL Cluster is, in general, an in-memory database, however non-indexed data can be stored on disk and the disks are also used for checkpointing to ensure durability through system shutdown. MySQL cluster provides unique hash indexes as well as ordered T-tree indexes.

    The S3 storage engine in MariaDB 10.5 FOSDEM 2020 Michael Widenius CTO @ MariaDB What is Amazon S3 ● Storage of files in the cloud ● Works through http requests (think get/put) ● Supports basic functions like list files, copy to/from and delete. ● Move is implemented as copy + delete of the whole file (not fast) ● Quite slow for small files. Optimal file size for retrial is said to be around 4M. ● Many vendors support storage of files according to the ‘S3 interface’ ● Not really usable for databases who needs to update blocks withing a file. S3 storage ● All files are stored in one of several ‘buckets’ ● Files are stored as objects in a bucket accessed with a key. ● The key may contain ‘/’ and commands like ‘aws ls’ make S3 storage to feel like a file structure, even it it really isn’t. S3 storage engine in MariaDB 10.5 ● Read only tables (perfect for inexpensive archiving of old data). ● For some organizations S3 storage is cheaper than local storage ● Data and index can optionally be compressed on S3, which can make storage even cheaper. ● S3 works with partitioning for flexible handling of multiple tables ● Very fast, thanks to reading of blocks in big chunks (4M by default) ● Supports all key formats and optimizations that Aria supports ● Data can be accessed by multiple MariaDB servers.
