TEAM CANADA TORONTO 2015 GAME NOTES DAY 6 - Thurs. Aug 13, 2015 CANADA (W) MEXICO (W) (CAN) vs (MEX) @8:45 p.m. (RYA) - Away Record: 1-0 Home Record: 0-1 Ryerson Athletic Centre Home Court Revenge: Canada defeated Mexico in the 2011 Parapan Am semi-finals 71-59 on the South American nation’s home court. Schedule & Results Mexico will look to return the favour by taking points away from Canada in Toronto. Day 1 - Aug 8 @ 6:30 p.m. (RYA) High-scoring Canadian Women: Team Canada scored the most 18 GUA vs CAN 78 points in a Parapan Am Game since 2007 in their opening game versus Guatemala. Canada scored 78 points, besting their previous scoring record of 71, in a dominating performance versus the Central Day 2 - Aug 9 American nation. The opening game also broke the Canadian record @ 8:45 p.m. (RYA) for largest margin of victory, with Canada winning the game by a 60 CAN vs MEX point difference, 78-18. Day 4 - Aug 11 The Younger the Better: Arinn Young (Legal, Alta.) had a breakout @ 4:15 p.m. (RYA) game versus Guatemala. Young led all scorers with 18 points and BRA vs CAN was Canada’s top rebounder with 8 rebounds. She went 53% from the floor. Watch for the sharp-shooter to have a repeat performance Day 6 - Aug 13 (SF) versus Mexico. @ (RYA) Team Affair: Ten of Canada’s 12 athletes contributed at least one vs basket against Guatemala. Just three athletes (Young, Gavel and Harnock) scored in the double-digits proving Canada’s win was a true Day 7 - Aug 14 (F) team effort. @ (RYA) vs Road to Rio: The Canadian Women’s National Team is looking to extend its winning tradition at the Parapan American Games, having captured two gold medals (1999, 2003) and two silver medals (2007, 2011) in four appearances. The Parapan Am tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2016 Paralympic Games and a podium finish (top three) would earn Team Canada a berth into next year’s Paralympics. *In the event that Brazil medals at these Games, Canada can still claim a berth to Rio by finishing fourth, as Brazil is already assured a berth as host nation.     Press Release For Immediate Release: January 9, 2013 2013 NATIONAL WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL TEAMS NAMED (Las Vegas, NV) Wheelchair Basketball Canada is pleased to announce the names of the 24 athletes selected to represent Canada in 2013 as members of the Senior Men’s and Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Teams. The rosters include nine returning players from the London 2012 Paralympic gold medal winning men’s team, and ten returning players from the women’s team. "The three new players give our senior team an injection of youth and top- end speed, and I'm looking forward to working them into the various line-up combinations. At the same time, I'm excited about the additional opportunities for our development athletes and Futures Program players to compete internationally in 2013," said Jerry Tonello, Team Canada men's head coach. “Our team is a fast, high-energy group and I’m looking forward to watching our younger players develop and learn from the dedication and motivation of our veterans,” said Bill Johnson, Team Canada women’s head coach. The teams were selected from a pool of 46 athletes (22 men and 24 women) who attended a weeklong selection camp January 2-8, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
