    Article The Question of Algorithmic Personhood and Being (Or: On the Tenuous Nature of Human Status and Humanity Tests in Virtual Spaces—Why All Souls Are ‘Necessarily’ Equal When Considered as Energy) Tyler Lance Jaynes Alden March Bioethics Institute, Albany Medical College, Albany, NY 12208, USA; [email protected] Abstract: What separates the unique nature of human consciousness and that of an entity that can only perceive the world via strict logic-based structures? Rather than assume that there is some potential way in which logic-only existence is non-feasible, our species would be better served by assuming that such sentient existence is feasible. Under this assumption, artificial intelligence systems (AIS), which are creations that run solely upon logic to process data, even with self-learning architectures, should therefore not face the opposition they have to gaining some legal duties and protections insofar as they are sophisticated enough to display consciousness akin to humans. Should our species enable AIS to gain a digital body to inhabit (if we have not already done so), it is more pressing than ever that solid arguments be made as to how humanity can accept AIS as being cognizant of the same degree as we ourselves claim to be.     1 PREVIOUSLY AT KAMI-CON KAMI-CON CHARACTERS PREVIOUSLY AT KAMI-CON... Shio and Kosho, with the help of YOU the congoers, defeated the alien forces and grounded Shoyu on planet Vidya—a world where the physics, landmarks, and inhabitants have developed into something remarkably similar to the video games we are familiar with here on Earth. However, it seems that Shoyu would not be defeated so easily. After crash landing on Vidya, he began to court the local inhabitants of the planet to join him and fight for his cause! With the planet he was supposed to be trapped on becoming a new source of power, it was up to you Kami-Congoers once again to rise to the occasion and help Shio and Kosho stop Shoyu! (This seems to happen a lot. Who would have known that having the Spirit of the Yandere Black Turtle for a magical animal mascot would have brought so much drama to Kami-Con? Oh, well!) With the help of the congoers, Shoyu only managed to recruit three powerful allies— Ken from Street Fighter, Princess Peach from Super Mario Bros., and Link from The Legend of Zelda. Shio and Kosho recruited Ryu from Street Fighter, and Vault Boy from Fallout. These heroes met on the battlefield known asSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate! It was truly an epic match—and in the end, it was Shio and Kosho who proved victorious! His coup having been thwarted, Shoyu agreed to team back up with the congirls to continue their journey through space toward World Conquest! Everything should be fine now as long as they don’t all, say, crash their starship into a mysterious beach planet… right? Jād Saxton has been acting and singing for Funimation Entertainment consistently for 6 years – singing is what actually landed her her first role in anime in Sasami: Magical Girls Club. After doing bits for Sasami and Hell Girl she landed her first major role as Masako Hara in Ghost Hunt. She then went on to voice Eve Genoard in Baccano!, Perrine-H. Clostermann in seasons 1 and 2 of Strike Witches, and Jacqueline O. Lantern Dupré in Soul Eater. Most recently announced releases include: Fairy Tail as Carla, Haganai as Sena Kashiwazaki, Michiko & Hatchin as Hatchin, Eureka Seven AO as Elena Peoples, High School DxD as Koneko Tōjō, Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing as Fam Fan Fan, Toriko as Yun, A Certain Scientific Railgun as Komoe, Steins;Gate as Faris Nyannyan, and Freezing as Arnett McMillan. Micah made his debut in the world of anime as the timid Malek Werner in Blassreiter, and was cast as the cool Soul Evans in Soul Eater shortly after.
