His first year earned him the Calder Trophy and a spot on the NHL’s Second All-Star Team. The 1969-70 season was a milestone for Orr. He was the first defenceman in League history to lead the NHL in scoring, with 33 goals and 87 assists. He won the Art Ross Trophy and the Hart Trophy. Orr also earned his third Norris Trophy in as many seasons, bringing him one step closer to his record of eight consecutive wins. For the third straight season, he was also selected for the First All-Star Team. To top it all off, the Boston Bruins won their first Stanley Cup in 29 years – with Orr scoring the winning goal in overtime. As the puck entered the net, photographers snapped an enduring photo of him soaring horizontally several feet above the ice, his arms outstretched in victory. For his outstanding play, Orr was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the League’s most valuable player in the playoffs. Following this incredible year, Orr signed the first $1-million deal realized in hockey to start the 1971-72 season. $185 OFDC 413965131 Only 1,967 available, signed and numbered $24995 Limited edition framed print – $15 Set of all 6 Bobby Orr souvenir sheets 27.5” x 24.5” / 698.5 mm x 622.3 mm 403962145 342023 See page 24 6 DEtaIls OctobER 2014 Call to ORDER 1-800-565-4362 Harry Howell By his retirement, Harry Howell had 1,581 professional hockey games to his credit, more than any other defenceman. That can all change this year as Pilote brings readers rinkside in this compelling biography, Heart of the Blackhawks: The Pierre Pilote Story . It is an authorized biography co-written with L. Waxy Gregoire and David M. Dupuis. Any sports fan will enjoy the stories of Pilote teaming up with the likes of Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Glenn Hall, Moose Vasko, Tommy Ivan, Rudy Pilous, and Billy Reay. This is truly an unforgettable story told by an unforgettable star. Pierre Pilote was one of the most outstanding defensemen of his time. In the days before Bobby Orr redefined how defensemen played the game, Pilote was already establishing himself as an offensive catalyst. "Pierre changed the game quite a bit. He was even pre-Bobby Orr. With the defense moving in to be part of the offense, he was certainly influential," suggested Hawks goaltending great Glenn Hall.
