Brind’Amour served as captain in each of Laviolette’s 25 postseason games behind the bench, posting 18 points (12g, 6a) to lead the Hurricanes to the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. Only Paul Maurice (1999, 2001-02, 2009: 25-28 in 53 GC) has coached more postseason games for the Whalers/Hurricanes. SOMETHING’S FISHY Sebastian Aho scored his first two goals of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight in his 25th career NHL/Hurricanes postseason game. He has now registered 26 career playoff points (10g, 16a), marking the second-most points through 25 career postseason games in franchise history. Eric Staal ranks first with his league-leading 28 points (9g, 19a) in 25 games during the 2006 playoffs. Aho’s goal also came on the power play, where he ranked tied with Jordan Staal and Vincent Trocheck for the team high in goals during the regular season (7). DOUG DYNASTY Dougie Hamilton registered an assist tonight, marking his first playoff point this season. He has now posted 21 points (6g, 15a) in 45 career NHL postseason games with CAR, CGY and BOS, including 10 points (4g, 6a) in 22 playoff games with the Hurricanes since 2019. Hamilton has become the seventh defenseman in franchise history and the fourth since relocation to tally 10 playoff points with the Whalers/Hurricanes. He led all NHL defensemen with a point in 34 games during the regular season, and his 42 points (10g, 32a) during the regular season ranked tied for seventh among NHL blueliners. HAAAVE YOU MET NED? Alex Nedeljkovic stopped all 32 shots he faced tonight to earn his first career NHL/Hurricanes playoff shutout. He is the second rookie goaltender in franchise history to post a postseason shutout, joining Cam Ward (5/6/06 vs. NJD, 6/7/06 vs. EDM). Nedeljkovic is also just the second goaltender to post a shutout in the playoffs this season (Cam Talbot, MIN). He posted two shutouts in 23 AHL playoff games with Charlotte from 2018-19. BACK IN BLACK The Hurricanes are wearing their black third jerseys during home playoff games after wearing them 12 times during the regular season. Carolina posted a 9-1-2 record in their third jerseys during the regular season, and they are now 2-0 in them in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Since debuting them in 2018-19, the Hurricanes are 36-12-5 (including regular season and playoffs) when wearing their black uniforms. SPECIAL TEAMS - Carolina went 1-for-3 on the power play tonight and is now 1-for-7 (14.3%) on the man-advantage during the 2021 postseason.
