In 1961 Jimmy played in goal for Dublin when they defeated Wexford in their last Dublin Captain Stephen Cluxton, raises the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship Final win. Little did anyone know then that it Delaney Cup in triumph at Croke Park in July 2013 would be a long 52 years before the Dubs would repeat that victory. Well worth waiting for, Jimmy! “60,000 Players Involved in Boden Games in 2010” Has the Editor Gone Mad I Hear You Say!

Check this out. In 2010, Boden participated in 1,500 competitive games across the four codes. Given that this also involved 1,500 teams from Criostóir Ó Cuana, Úachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael performs the official opening of the other clubs with an average of 20 players per squad this Sancta Maria Complex watched by Terry O’Neill, Club Chair; Cllr. Eamonn Maloney, Mayor of South Dublin; Joan O’Flynn, Úachtarán, Cumann Camógaíochta; Colin Moran and Fr. Jimmy amounts to a total of 60,000 players taking part in gaelic games Murray, O. Carm., PP, St. Colmcille’s Knocklyon playing activity involving the club. And of course don’t forget the 1,500 referees. It is a phenomenal number. Add in all the training sessions and discussions associated with each team and the impact of this voluntary activity is truly enormous. As the country faces into difficult economic times, it is heartening to see such endeavour complemented with characteristics like passion, spirit and hope. These qualities are not in short supply in Ireland and if we can harness them properly we will overcome our problems. The club itself was overcome with joy in 2010 with the marvellous four-in-a-row senior hurling titles – an achievement that places the club among the ranks of great clubs. -

This position cannot continue, if we are to remain viable.” That is the blunt message from new Club Chairman, Paddy Walsh to Boden News readers. He adds “the members, by their contributions at the AGM, have pointed the Executive Commit- tee in the direction that it must take to steady the ship over the next 12 months.” A key element of that strategy is the setting up of a Finance Committee under Chairman Terry O’Neill. Former Senior hurler, Terry is now a juvenile camogie coach. A Finance Executive, he and his team have been tasked with the job of devising the strategy for the Executive Committee. All-Ireland Glory, Allianz League Success, Double All Stars, Five in a Row
´BODEThe News Ballyboden St. Endas G.A.A., Camogie & Ladies Football Club IRISLEABHAR BAILE BUADÁIN NAOMH ÉANNA No: 38 ISSN 0791-9778 www.bodengaa.ie e: [email protected] Nollaig 2011 All-Ireland Glory, Allianz League Success, Double All Stars, Five in a Row... ...all in all a Great Boden Year All-Stars Michael Darragh Macauley and Gary Maguire flanking Allianz League Champions Stephen Hiney and Dublin Hurling Captain John McCaffrey. Benchmark years form part of the jargon of economists and others but its a useful term in describing the 2011 season as far as Ballyboden St Endas is concerned. On a glorious May Day in Croke Park, the Dublin hurlers grabbed the headlines with a wonderful win over Kilkenny in the Allianz League final. Boden players led the way. Stephen Hiney forgot momentarily about his injury that had denied him a place on the field to share with John McCaffrey the honour of accepting the cup. Celebrating the moment were Gary Maguire, Shane Durkin, Conal Keaney, Conor McCormack, Simon Lambert, Paul Ryan, David Curtin and Finn McGarry. Move forward to September and replay those final moments as Stephen Cluxton’s left boot points the way to the return of Sam Maguire to the county. But don’t forget the towering performance at midfield of Michael Darragh Macauley and the support of squad member Darragh Nelson. Back on home turf, the senior hurlers kept up their winning ways with fifth senior title on the trot equalling a record last set in 1929. A magnificent achievement for manager Liam Hogan and selectors John Kirwan, Brian Kelleher, Brian O’Regan and Damien Young. -

NOVEMBER 1997 PROMISES DELIVERED! Our recent Fundraising Auction in aid of the new Pastoral Centre, held at Ballyboden St. Endas Clubhouse, attracted a large attendance. Local resident Michael Jordan, Auctioneer, provided a great nights entertainment, while taking bids on over one hundred items. The final tally for the event was an amazing which is a great start towards the funding of this project. The parish would like to acknowledge the tremendous work carried out by the organising committee for the night, whose expertise and enthusiasm ensured this "novel" fundraising method was both a social and financial success. Most people went home with a prize or bargain tucked under their arm. Our thanks also to the many companies and individuals who donated items to be auctioned or raffled, and to all who attended and bought the goods/ services on offer.
