Brief description of proposal The committee awarded £334 at the previous meeting for a trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park during the Easter holidays and continued consideration of the equipment. Breakdown of costs is as follows : Transport £350, Food supplies £1,300, (Food costs are ineligible but applicant’s contribution covers the cost), Fuel Brief description of proposal for cooker £195, Ferry £195, Sport Equipment £200, 4x Vango tents £200 and 6x Gas lamps £300. The group also wish to buy 10 Scout tents for general use throughout the year (£5,000). The tents would be available to other Boys Brigade Companies who attend the camp. The committee continued consideration of this application at the previous meeting Areas Covered Maryhill/Kelvin, Canal, Hillhead and environs. Total cost £7,740 £1,500 from the Boys Brigade through fund raising. Hillhead and Canal Area Committees have awarded Other funding £2,433 and £2,122 respectively, based on the membership within those wards. Dar Al Falaah, 35 Avenuepark Street, Maryhill Funding is requested to expand Arabic language teaching classes. The organisation rents 11 classrooms in Hillhead High School, and the gymnasium, to teach 8 levels of the language. There are approximately 80 children and 20 adults participating, 10 tutors, 2 supervisors and 2 coaches as well as 12 volunteers. Costs are specifically requested to purchase 2 desktop Brief description of proposal computers, one laptop, chairs, computer desk and a storage cupboard for their office in Maryhill Community Centre. Hillhead Area Committee awarded £1,298 (50% of equipment costs). This committee continued consideration of the application until details of the members/users from the Maryhill/Kelvin ward were available. Parkview Primary School – Rothes Drive, Summerston Following the amalgamation of Parkview with Maryhill and Wyndford Primary Schools, the school would like to enhance the playground with games painted onto the surface. Brief description of proposal The committee continued consideration of this application at the previous meeting to allow the option of GCSS undertaking the work to be investigated. The specialist nature of the work however, would require the engagement of qualified and experienced staff. Partick Thistle FC/BC - Summerston Funding is requested for football and training equipment to establish a number of youth football teams in north Glasgow, with a longer term view to establishing a football academy. Schools in the areas will be contacted to recruit boys and girls for the teams. Facilities at John Paul Academy in Summerston and Petershill Community Brief description of proposal Facility in Springburn will be used. The Springburn Area Committee awarded £1,914 for activities at Petershill. This committee continued consideration of the application at its previous meeting to allow Canal Area Committee to consider a request for a contribution, as some pupils at the schools in question would reside in the Canal Ward – subsequently, the Canal Area Committee awarded £500. Summerston Childcare – Bellcraig CEC The committee continued consideration of this application for IT equipment for use within Bellcraig Community Centre at the previous meeting. Since then, it has been confirmed that the Council has no suitable re-conditioned equipment. Furthermore, any such equipment would be around 5 years old and of a relatively low specification; it Brief description of proposal would have no software (unlike the equipment sent to Malawi where an agreement exists with Microsoft whereby it provides software and licenses); there would be no technical support or backup from the Council; information security guidelines would need to be adhered to which may involve an additional cost to the Council. Culture and Sport Glasgow (CSG) Working in partnership with local youth organisations and environmental projects, CSG will deliver outdoor activities accessible to young people of Glasgow North.
