Feed My Lambs

“Feed my Lambs” is the weekly request of the SVDP society to parishioners to bring to Church the one or two items of which the Food Pantry is in low supply. This week’s items are: 1 or 2 lb. bags of white rice, tuna fish, instant potatoes, pas- ta & rice sides, small juice boxes or regular juice bottles, crackers, Chef Boyardee canned pasta.

Of course, any other food items you wish to donate will be gratefully accepted, but the items that we are concentrating on will help us ensure that these items will be in supply for our clients. All items can be left in the rear of the church before and after all weekend Masses. During the week, items can be brought to Parish Outreach between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Thank you for helping us minister to the lambs of our community who are in need.

Please do not leave perishable items, opened items, clothing items, or household items in the vestibule food bin. Thank you.

Not only are we going to be a part of the famous Oberammergau Passion Play, which in itself is a lifetime opportunity, we will also be attending a showing that has been rescheduled, something that has happened only a handful of times in its long history. This will indeed be a special and historic pilgrimage that few people ever get to make! The history of the Passion Play dates back to 1633. In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and death from the plague, the Oberammergau villagers swore an oath that they would perform the "Play of the Suffering, Death, and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. Every ten years since then, the villagers fulfill their promise to god. What a tremendous and unique way for us to unite our own spiritual journey with this extraordinary tradition of faith. This spiritual journey promises to be uplifting and inspiring to say the least. The Lazarus Bereavement Support Program

The LAZARUS BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT PROGRAM at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Outreach 1025 5th Avenue, East Northport, NY 11731

We have all suffered the loss of someone near and very dear to us. It may have been a spouse, child, parent, sibling, or friend. Often our grief can be so devastating that we may feel completely lost and alone.

The Lazarus Bereavement Support program is an eight week program in which healing can begin. It provides members with an opportunity to understand grief in a way that rebuilds our identity and strengthens our faith in ourselves and our Lord.

The Lazarus Bereavement Support Program helps members to understand that grief is experienced in each person differently and that it often takes a very long time for the pain to heal. Participants will learn strategies for dealing with grief and will receive (and give) valuable support and fellowship throughout the healing pro- cess.

Anyone who has experienced grief will be enriched by attending. The Lazarus Bereavement Support Pro- gram will meet in the Parish Outreach on Thursdays at 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Co-facilitators John Bozzella and Roseann Pizzo invite all interested parties to call the Parish Out- reach at 631-261-1695. Please register now before the maximum enrollment is reached. There are no fees or expenses to participate. This is a Church sponsored opportunity to heal.

Growing In God’s Love

Reflections from the Family Liturgy Committee www.facebook.com/StAnthonysFamilyLiturgy -- [email protected] Last week, we celebrated Pentecost, which marked the God’s message this week: end of the Easter Season. We are now in the season of Spread the Good News! Ordinary Time. The word “ordinary” gets a bad rap. Sometimes we think it means boring or unimportant, but in the Church, Ordinary Time gives us the opportunity to learn more about the most important parts of our faith. (And fun fact: it’s called Ordinary Time, not because it’s bor- ing, but because it’s numbered using ordinal numbers– first, second, third and so on.) In today’s Gospel, we hear The Great Commission that Jesus gave to His disciples: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spir- it” (Matthew 28:19). Jesus wants His Followers to share the Good News with others. So how do we do that? One of my favorite quotes from St. Francis is: “Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.” What does that mean? Well, we can tell people stories from the Bible and prayers and things that we learned in Church or at Religious Educa- tion classes. But we can also “preach the Gospel” by how we act: sharing, showing kindness, loving others, being generous – because this is how God and Jesus want us to behave toward others. We can teach others about the Love of Jesus by showing them the Love of Jesus!
