    Corsham Community Policing Report Area Board – 14th November 2018 Hello and welcome to this Community Policing Team report. As part of Op Sceptre - the national knife crime prevention initiative was launched, bringing together police forces co-ordinating ways to tackle knife crime, appealing for people to hand in unwanted or illegal knives and bladed weapons during the period of the amnesty: Monday 17 - Sunday 30 September. Our two week campaign featured case studies from people whose lives have been affected by knife crime - from the victim of knife crime to the police officer who had to deal with a serious stabbing. Knives are used as an everyday tool in the home and in industry, but when placed in the wrong hands or adapted for the wrong purpose can have devastating consequences. A fine example of this was on Wednesday 3rd October 2018 at approximately 14:00 hours a report was received from a member of public regarding a possible drink driver on Easton Lane. Police were on scene in minutes following a short pursuit and the male ran from his vehicle, the suspect was detained and arrested. On searching his vehicle a sword was found. The 29 year old male from Thingley has been charged with fail to stop, dangerous driving, drink driving and possession bladed article. Sgt Mark SIMPSON wanted to thank the member of public who called this in. Thank you Special amnesty bins were available at six locations across the county: Swindon's Gablecross Police Station, Marlborough Police Station, Melksham Police Station, Chippenham's Monkton Park, Trowbridge Police Station and the Temporary Police Station at the rear of Five Rivers Leisure Centre in Salisbury.

    8. LANDSCAPE TYPE 1: OPEN DOWNLAND Location and Boundaries 8.1. The landscape type encompasses a number of distinct downland blocks from the Marlborough Downs (1A) and Horton Down (1C) in the west running through to the Lambourn Downs (1B) and Blewbury Downs (1D) in the east. Boundaries are mainly defined by topography and the Upper Chalk geology, and in the north relate to the top of the Scarp (landscape type 5). To the south, the edge of the chalk similarly forms a distinct boundary. Overview The Open Downlands are the remote heart and core of the North Wessex Downs, with the dramatic landscapes created by the underlying chalk rocks being one of the defining features of the AONB. The subtle curves and undulations of the landform are revealed by the uniform clothing of cropped grass or cereals creating a landscape with a simple and elemental quality, accentuated by vast skies. The open, expansive views are punctuated by distinctive beech clumps crowning the downland summits, forming prominent and highly visible landmarks. Sparsely populated, the downlands possess a strong sense remoteness and isolation. Predominantly in arable cultivation these are landscapes of great seasonal variation, with muted browns and greys of the chalk and flinty soils in the ploughed autumn fields, giving way to fresh greens of the emerging crops in winter and spring and sweeping yellows and golds of summer. The characteristic close-cropped springy downland turf of the surviving herb-rich chalk grassland provides an important habitat and this landscape type contains the largest areas of designated chalk grassland in the AONB, with 15 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Evidence suggests that domestic security strategies that unduly discriminate against non-citizens or national minorities are counterproductive; such strategies lead to a loss of state legitimacy, they complicate the gathering of intelligence, and they serve as a potential source of radicalization. At the same time, discriminatory counterterrorism policies represent a significant break from liberal democratic ideals by legitimizing unfair treatment of targeted groups. If discriminatory counterterrorism policies are counterproductive and undemocratic, why do policymakers support such strategies in the first place? By what means do these types of policies and related administrative measures gain traction in the political system? How do these measures operate in practice, and what accounts for variations in their implementation over time? To answer these questions, a policy process model is used that distinguishes between the problem definition and agenda setting, policy formulation and legitimation, and policy implementation phases of policymaking.
