The restrictions of the present Plan are of particular concern because of the heavy water requirements at Nidgery and Gongolgon Weirs because of the additional usage cause by government facilities- Yetta Dhinnakkal, Orana Haven and Currawah Adventist College on an unregulated river. They have been established in a suitable area for indudgenous people, but water availability has not been taken into consideration. This is causing concern to ALL water users and we really need an additional flow.

10.Submission to the Office of Water

Within the constraints of drought conditions that have occurred at times since the Plan was implemented, we believe that the Plan has largely achieved its objectives in relation to the Bogan River downstream of its junction with Gunningbah Creek. The Plan has provided replenishment flows to maintain water in deeper natural waterholes and constructed storages and provided water for household, town and stock use. Nevertheless, water levels in larger waterholes, and both in and off-stream storages filled from the river, have reached dangerously low llevels at times. Resultant concerns over water availability for stock, towns, and households have added to the stress on water users during drought. We consider it imperative that any revisions to the plan continue to provide for these replenishment flows under conditions no less favourable than those that have applied since the Plan was implemented. Further it must be noted and remembered that we have Yetta Dhinnakkal Correctional Centre (population approximately 100), Orana Haven Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation (40) and a new user Currawah Adventist College Boarding School (80) all with indidgenous populations drawing on Nidgery and Gongolgon Weirs. Not withstanding we are very appreciative of the assistance we have had from the staff of State Water in implementaion of the present Plan.
